San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I would say, stick to a guard dog and get to know that dog before you commit. Or at least be able to bring it back. Australian Shepherds are intelligent family dogs that can be trained to do skills for competition and working as a herder. They are not guard dogs for small animals although they will bark at coyotes but then most dogs, even terriers will bark at anything that enters their area if not taught otherwise.

So I will write a chicken note. I am sour on the post office. Again delivery of hatching eggs are later than expected. I swear I am off shipping eggs again. poo I'm mad at the world today !

I love aussies I have a half Bred Aussie her name is Rosie. I have had a bad experience with heelers. I love dogs of most types but have no use for heelers. They need a job and a human to be their partner. There was a woman we used to call the 5150 lady who owned the property on the other side of me. (5150 is police code for crazy) She had a pack of Heelers that were supposedly well bred. They Ate my Geo Metro. Every time I went past her gate they would wait in ambush and chase the car and bite the wheels and fender... I had teeth marks all the way up to the gas cap.

Boxers I always found to be too high energy for me. Dogs on Pogosticks is what call them. LOL.

Yes check out Allison's references. I would guess that she has a bunch of contacts. Aussies have just as much energy as the heeler or any other herder. Guard dogs on the other hand are low key and don't mind hanging around just watching everything to see if everything is normal or not.

I held my little cockerel for a bit today. I raised him for a friend of mine who kept my birds for a while. This little bird and his little pullet came from blue eggs and was raised by a breeder who filled my order for BBS Bantam Ameraucans. My friend doesn't care what the breed is but she wants a few bantams.

Hey San Diego Chicken folks. I have a rooster dilemma. I have a four month old Polish Gold Crested Rooster who is just way too rough with my silkies. He really hasn't figured out the whole rooster thing yet, but he apparently got way too exhuberant with one of my little silkies and we had to put her down. He doesn't appear to be overly aggressive at all to people and the Polish girls seem to be able to out run him. I'd like to rehome him to a good home so I can restore peace to my little farmyard. Is anybod interested in Geronimo? I have him listed on Craig's list, but would much rather know that he might find a good home with our SD/SOCAL chicken community. He is gorgeous....

I can hardly fault him for just doing what roosters do, but I am pretty heart broken about my little white silkie
