hmmm maybe rats. they sure can get through small spots. they wreaked havoc on our tomatoes last year. if you can find "have a heart" traps, they catch the critters without killing them; you can relocate if you wish. we also got a trap that lets out an electric charge when they step into it. Not so nice, but no crushed skulls either. with that electric one just on near the bed, they seemed to stay away; i think they could sense the high freqency noise or something.

this year we had a rat's nest in our compost bin! no matter how we tried to block the hole they chewed through the plastic box, they still got in!

maybe you could put a cover on the top too and see if it still happens.

Put out one of those electric rat traps last night - nothing - however, I did find some "stones" from either peach/plum type fruit in the vegetable bed - could it be a possum? I am hoping to get one of those game camera's for christmas - does anyone have one of those? - they look fascinating!

I have a comment on the MM feed - opened bag of soy free starter yesterday - it is soooo powdery and very few crumbles - the girls threw the feed everywhere in their search for the crumbles - they will blow thru' that 50 lbs very quickly. I went to Country Feed and bought a bag of the Organic Pride - it was $29.99. Added that to the MM feed and that seemed much better for them. Has anyone had this problem/concern? Previous bags have been dusty of the MM, but this was the worst. I'm sure the MM is probably much better quality, but what a waste.

I believe Jared will be bringing some young chickens for sale.

2 black/white crested polish,2 seramas he bought at the serama show and possably a silkie.
his coop is full and needs to be thinned out.

these are birds he has cared for and raised since chicks.
