Somewhere here on BYC I read that it's given in place of greens when chickens can't get out to free range. Makes their yolks deeper in color. Just curious.

It might be useful as a Greens supplement rather than giving alfalfa not as a straight food source though. I give my Guineas a half a flake of alfalfa about once a week.
 
Do your guineas eat the stalks, or just the flaky, fine stuff? I bought a huge container of organic spinach from Albertsons (for like $3!), and my chickens are loving it. I hadn't thought to give them hay.

I forgot to check what MM stuff I needed. Tomorrow!
 
like you i give my penned birds the stuff left in the feeders the goats dont eat.the small leaves that fall off the stalk.they love it and gives them a mound to dig around in.
