My thoughts are if you trap it - it doesn't really solve the real problem- which is that your coop is weak to predators. Better off building a proper coop and definitely use hardware cloth.

Yep simply trapping it just leaves a hole for another to take its place..... better to teach it that chicken coops are unproductive and or the fencing around it BITES hard. So they are "conditioned" to leave yours alone. Yet keeping other untrained predators out of the area.
Replace the wire with something stronger and put the food up at night. I always take mine out of the run and put it in the coop, I don't want to feed even mice!
