San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

P.P.S So in chicken math, 20 chickens would make it 10 times more peaceful, right?

I have hatched more than 50 chicks SINCE the meet up on Saturday, and it is only MONDAY. Luckily most are not mine!!! (I just get the fun of hatching).
REALLY not sure that they make the living room "more peaceful" ..............

LOL I did that to my own mom.... shes suffered through over 40 Guinea keets brooding out and now has 20 Wellies brooding and till the weather clears Two Full Grown Silky Roos in her garage. I take them all up to my house in about two days. Soon as the snow clears and it starts warming up again.

WRT those Zen moments. I have Asthma and there are times when I am flat out for a few days. At my house there is no TV No radio Cell phones dont work and the phone is only reliable at the Telephone pole about a thousand feet away. So I would lay there open the sliding glass door and watch Chicken TV. OH my GAWD... Every so often after a nap Id wake up with a beedy eye staring at me from the door. About two feet inside on the carpet...... "excuse me I was just leaving.... " and a fuzz butt exit. Or hear through my dreams "Awwwk? Awwwk? ..... Awwk?" open one eye and same hen.... Too funny.

Glad your mom is doing well.

Thanks for the thought. She has metastatic breast cancer (4th year and counting - yay!), and sometimes it's hard for her to find things in life that bring peace. She has two chickens, though, and she says that watching those chickens scratch in the yard on a sunny day is one of her "moments of zen." I get the same feeling watching mine, and it seems to be common in the chicken world (except for maybe those of you looking at them who are wondering which one is the most tender).

I think all of us are very lucky to get such joy out of such a simple thing. Life is good.

P.S. The husband said that that's why I don't get to have a bigger car, as he can't afford horse bail.

So now that the deviled egg contest is long gone (and not that I had any chance in that anyway), I find this picture on Pinterest:

Are those cute, or what?

When I was looking at Molinamama's pictures yesterday, I saw some egg-shaped things in a clear container... what were they?

I finished off Ghislaine's bread yesterday. Can she do gluten-free, dairy-free organic, too? That was some delicious bread!

Gosh we had some wild weather last night! We have skylights in the hall by the bedrooms; when the hail hit, it sounded like artillery fire. I hope nobody floated away or got snowed in...

just had 2 hatch out lastnight calling your name

Since the meetup, I've been having fantasies about getting an Ameracauna again......those beautiful light blue eggs have been in my dreams.

OMG those are TOO cute!!!!!!! HA!

Yes we had some crazy weather... it was actually hailing!!!

Those eggs Dana are darling!! I can't wait to make them for the kids.

No baby goats Renee?

It's hard to tell how much snow we got up here in Julian. I'd say 5-6 inches. Some places where the wind piled it up we have a foot. I actually had snow in the chicken runs and horse run-ins. It blew through any little crack. The only chickens out this morning were the Swedish Flowers.

Thanks for sharing the deviled egg recipe Michael. Sounds like it was a team win.

Anyone going to Norco any time soon that could pick up a bird for me? :D

Someone had a hen that laid only shell-less eggs and they had preserved them in vinegar... they were pretty cool.

Allison, When do you need the bird picked up? SOON? I will most likely be down this weekend to pick up chicks from Miriam and Cari. I will drive right by Norco. Let me know if I can be of service.
