I am totally overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity I've been shown here... you guys are all so wonderful. (I am feeling a bit guilty though - it was never my intention to host hoping that people would offer me free things. I was bowled away by the things people gave me on Saturday, and I continue to be amazed now. We have an awesome group!)

I'll be in PM contact over the coming week to make arrangements for chick pickups. I'm excited to be a chick raiser once more... thank you all so very much! I promise to give your babies a great home.

I've been meaning to get on here sooner, but we had a little unexpected excitement this weekend. My apologies for the lag!

I wanted to thank all of you for including me, my friend Jeannie, and my nephew Daniel in your wonderful event. We had a great time, and apart from being the only ones with inflated rubber gloves on our heads (we were trying for chicken combs in the hat event, but we got some strange looks, so I don't know if we quite hit that one), we felt right at home. We thank you for answering all of our newbie questions, and my husband thanks you for the extra five pounds from the jam and applesauce. I told him that 900 pounds worth of live horse was the option to come home with, so he is now fine with the jam.

1. I apologize to all of you who had to wash your chicks a few dozen times to get the sweaty-12-year-old-hand smell off of them. Daniel was in absolute heaven.
2. My mother passed out Saturday afternoon and took a bit to come to, and you are all partially responsible for this, I'll have you know. That occurred right after this phone call: "Gram - I won a raffle prize at the meet up out here, and it's six fertilized eggs, and we get to take them home and hatch them, which they said means they will be at least half roosters, but probably more, and they are Welsummers, and do we have an incubator at your house?" To tell you the truth, my Mom has some health things going on, so she did pass out (not from the news, of course), but we all got a much-needed laugh at listening to the conversation, and at the recitation of the next things that will happen in Total Chicken Inundation, and I thank you raffle team members for it (now, anyway, but cursing later, I'm sure). It's very good for the soul, as I'm sure most of you remember from your first "I'm hatching eggs!!!" call.
3. Cari, you had better be eating some Welsummer eggs very soon to make room in your incubator this week, as I'm already feeling badly about you getting lassoed. We will make up for it later with more hatchers. I will be buying a pricey incubator very soon, I think, and you can use that one as much as you want (especially when another 12-year-old boy comes up and asks how to hatch their raffle prize eggs). You are a good person (and patient, and generous), but have been punished enough.

Thanks again to everyone for the fun time, for the lovely site, and for the smiles in my day.

And they would have hopped right in the car with you, too! So glad your mom is okay...

Since the meetup, I've been having fantasies about getting an Ameracauna again......those beautiful light blue eggs have been in my dreams.

Thanks for the thought. She has metastatic breast cancer (4th year and counting - yay!), and sometimes it's hard for her to find things in life that bring peace. She has two chickens, though, and she says that watching those chickens scratch in the yard on a sunny day is one of her "moments of zen." I get the same feeling watching mine, and it seems to be common in the chicken world (except for maybe those of you looking at them who are wondering which one is the most tender).

I think all of us are very lucky to get such joy out of such a simple thing. Life is good.

P.S. The husband said that that's why I don't get to have a bigger car, as he can't afford horse bail.
P.P.S So in chicken math, 20 chickens would make it 10 times more peaceful, right?

Ahh, HOMEMADE mayo and extra spices, I made the same recipe (love bon appetit) but yours were much better! I'll have to write that onto that page :)

To clarify:

I made the deviled eggs. Ghislaine made the mayo. (yolks, mustard, vinegar, oil, salt pepper.)

The recipe was in this month's issue of BON APPETIT.

I only used scallions as garnish. I added garlic and onion powder.

Oh Elara! Your so funny! No worries about SIX little eggs when I have close to a 175 to hatch! Haha no Welsummer omelets for me! You will get your chicks come heck or high water!
