San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Heh...I have a Sansa, Arya, Daenerys, Katniss, Arwen, Eowyn and Galadriel. Yup, we're geeky over here.

Awesome!

My daughter named most of our early chickens, but she ran out of steam so now I get to name them. We had an Arya, except that she turned out to be a he and my daughter named him Peep.

I wasn't able to make it to the meet up, and my boyfriend and I are looking to buy some chickens. Probably around 4 hens either pullet or egg laying age. Please PM me if anyone has any for sale.
I have a wheaten maran hen you can have.
She is 2 YO. Just does not fit in with any project I have just now, and I am short on space

Here's another place you can buy more chickens...just what you needed, right?

Hello,

More than 1,000 4-H, FFA and independent exhibitors participate in the San Diego County Fair's Junior Livestock Program.

The culmination of the Program is attending the San Diego County Fair where animals are evaluated for quality and market readiness. Only blue ribbons animals may be sold at the Junior Livestock Auction on June 30, 2012. Species include beef, veal, swine, lambs, goats, rabbits, chicken and turkeys.

Animals may be purchased as a donation to the Junior Livestock Scholarship Fund (a 501(c)3 organization), as breeding animals (females identified in auction book), as weed eaters or for consumption. Purchased animals may also be sold to a processor for market price.

The following custom processors from the Inland Empire accept animals from the San Diego County Fair: Hottingers (Chino), Scott's Meats (Perris) and Cliff's Meats (San Jacinto).

All auction buyers will be named in one of three press releases issued by the San Diego County Fair on July 1, 2012:

"2012 Scholarship Donors"
"2012 Champion Buyers"
"2012 Auction Results"

Fair issued "Thank You" signs featuring the name of each buyer will be posted above each pen from June 30, 2012 through July 4, 2012. Over 500,000 people visit the fair over those five days!

Absentee bidding is available for companies and individuals who are unable to attend the auction. Absentee bids may be limited to a specific exhibitor or species.

Please contact the livestock office at 858-792-4283 for more information, to register for the auction, or to place an absentee bid. Visit our Facebook page at facebook.com/sdfairjuniorlivestockauction.

Ugh! Beaker my Muscovy hit his teenager stage. He's been trying to attack my husband but we thought that might be out of jealousy. The Pekins love my hubby and Beaker has always been more my duck. Today he went after me. I pushed him back down to the ground and held him there for a bit but he still tried to attack again. He's back in lock-up for now - no free-ranging for bad birdies.

Here's my new Blue Copper Marans from Amarisus... I need a better picture of her Splash sister. The Splash has now decided to be so friendly that all I'm getting are nose shots!

And here is my broody French Black Marans. I finally acquiesced and gave her six eggs to sit on.

That's it for now!
