San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Welcome back, Amarisus! I still have the Marans that I bought from you before you left.

I don't have any chicks at the moment, but I will have fertile eggs soon. I have a very nice Blue Copper boy over Black Copper, Black, Blue Copper and Splash hens. (I also have a bunch of 2nd generation Olive Eggers.)

Phage - I just got to see those Mottled Ameraucanas at Emily's... oh, my! What eye candy! I've never seen anything quite like them.

I know some of you were looking for butchering options, and I just saw this on CL: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/grd/3388685480.html

I would love fertile eggs when you have some :D just let me know when, thanks!

I have a young barred olive egger (5th or 6th generation) Rooster free to any BYC'r who wants him for their Olive egger project, or who just wants a fabulous well mannered large roo for their flock. I think he is double barred, but not 100% sure. He is feather legged, non bearded and pea combed. May carry lavender (self-blue).

I also have 1-2 Marans Roos from very dark egg laying line. I have a blue copper I want to rehome, but he's not available now because he injured his leg, but if he recovers, he would be a great addition to any Marans flock. The other is a black, and I think he is one of the miniature Marans out of my friends line. Despite being the same age as my other roos, he's a bit less than half their size. When you use these "mini" Marans, with full size hens, you get some regular sized and some mini offspring. The little guy is Black Copper.

I have 6 Olive Egger hens, four bearded, 1 non-bearded and barred and 1 black non-bearded, but I'm keeping them! LOL I also have two fabulous barred bearded pea combed OE Roos that I am keeping because they are bearded and more like Ameraucanas in type. The Roo I want to rehome is pea combed, quite large (meat/dual purpose?) and may be double barred. I no longer have any incubators, so I may sell hatching eggs from these guys this spring... (Or trade for stuff)

I am so depressed...I found my beautiful Blue Isbar rooster Fowler dead this morning. There wasn't a single mark on him; it looks like he just laid down and went to sleep.

He was just starting to get friendly with his ladies (who are just shy of 18 weeks), so I didn't even get a chance at any fertile eggs. He was the *nicest* boy; so sweet and good-natured. Sigh. I will miss him terribly. Why do these things happen?!? Can't believe he's gone...
