San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Hey guys, I haven't been on here in awhile but I'm in the market for some new hens, thinned out my flock and lost 2 to sour crop so I'm down to just 8!!! I'm not too particular as far as breed and they're just for eggs so I'm not concerned about form or show quality. The only thing I'm particular about is diversity in breed... well maybe I'd like an EE or two too. Does anyone have any young girls off the heat and starter crumble, ready to move in with the big girls (or that already have?). Please PM me!! Thanks so much! ~ Desirae

Great, I'll check that out. I want to sprout for several animals, including chickens, so I was hoping for a place to buy 50 pounds or so. But, maybe Sprouts can get me started!

oh my, in that quantity maybe it's not the cheapest route! But you can ask the bulk manager about ordering you a bag, and see the cost. I think theirs come in 50 lb bags

I know it's been mentioned before, but Azure Standard has outstanding prices on bulk grains/seeds etc and if there is a dropoff near you that meets the minimum, shipping is free.

Edited to add: The LDS Supply place reportedly carries bulk grains, but I have never been there. This is the infoI have for them:

You should be able to get their products in 50 lb bags.

Let us know what you find out. I asked sometime back for black oil sunflower seeds, for my horse but didnt follow up on it after I found them at the feed store.

OH and you might check with the Beer maker places too. I am seeing online at Craigslist people offering up Spent Beer grain for animal feed. ..... JUst another thought.

Thanks for the ideas! I did look at Azure Standard, as far as I can tell the seeds are $10-$20 per pound. Maybe that's the going rate, but it seemed a bit high. I was hoping for some place a little less expensive. I will keep looking!
