San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Al, as a beginner you can build one easily with templates, when you get into coding and want certain not-so-basic features, then it becomes more complicated. There are lots of free web builders and web hosting available online that you can start to learn off of.

You guys- I don't mind paying a few bucks a month to build a nicer (not too cheap and cheesy website) with maybe some nice features like calendar, breeder lists, maps to locations, gallery, maybe a little classifieds area (just local) etc. I can also do SEO.

I have used various programs. There are a lot out there. Right now I'm using CoffeeCup software. I know some HTML, but not enough to feel like a pro, and to create a whole page using only code. I like the software that is primarily more visual that I can draw, drag, click, copy, paste, etc, and add code only when I need something special. That's only my preference though. I'm sure some people can translate all the code into brain pictures easier than I can. Once you learn how to build a site, then you need to figure out how to upload, and maintain it!! That was a big challenge for me too- as I'm entirely self-taught. Make sure you choose a web hoster that has a good technical service department! Go Daddy is pretty easy and straightforward, with nice customer service, I also have used Aplus.net for hosting, which was a little cheaper, but a bit more confusing to upload to. Their service department has been very helpful and patient with me, though.

Okay, on another note, I've secured two domains...

www.SanDiegoChickens.net, and www.SoCalChickens.com we can start our site!

TigerrrrrLily- I've got your email, and you have mine. We can collaborate on this. My hosting account can accommodate up to 10 domains, and I'm not using all of them. Its already paid for...

Sunny- I'm not familiar with aplus. Are we able to upload our own website design or do you have to use their templates? Do you know what file types they support?

** also, will you be able to upload it and maintain it or can you give me access to do it?

Thanks for the info. I have played around with templates but have not really spend any time on it. One of these days, maybe when I turn off the cable TV;), I will have to try to learn it.

whoever ends up doing the website feel free to use [email protected]. I'll be glad to turn that over to someone...

Just got back from Namaste Farms. Came home with two giant Black Cochin girls. One Frizzled and one regular feathered. (named them Tanisha and Maggie Kathleen) She has some gorgeous black cochins out there. Can't wait for the weather to warm up. I'd like to buy some more cochin eggs but it's so cold right now to ship across the U.S.

Lynne, you'd be proud of Muffy... she's top cluck it seems.
