San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

When I had Finches I kept a couple of button quail in the bottom of the aviary for clean up duty.... those were reallly small. Your quail must be larger.... but They must be small dressed out.... ?

I have had quail eggs in sushi..... I have seen em hardboiled too.

Yes, they are substantially larger than button quail. 2 whole quails = a meal for 1 person. We usually keep 36 in the grow-out pen and sell the rest to make up for cost of buying the eggs on ebay, and feed.. not looking to make a profit, just break even. 36 quail is 9 meals for my husband and I. We try to keep a constant cycle, so we have 36 up there now, plus 82 in the garage in the brooder... I'm ordering more eggs next week!

I have 86 cotournix eggs going in lockdown today in the Philippines. They had a temp spike on day 1 but I am hopeful.

My toddlers love hard boiled quail eggs as a snack. They gobble them up.

a jumbo or texas A&M white cotournix should dress out at 10-13 oz at 7 weeks

here is an article
