San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I have got one broody that refuses to quit. She's our only bantam so I just let her be. Dana was trying to tempt me into throwing some fertile eggs under her last weekend...chicken pusher!! :p

How long do these girls stay broody? She is a younger bantam cochin that only just recently started laying.
I've had them go months. Of course, the entire time trying to break them. I had one get sooooo thin. I finally broke her, but it took a couple of months.
I have a hen sitting on two eggs. One isn't viable, so in a week she'll get her dream of motherhood to one chick. I can handle one chick.

I dream of 12 broody hens, all sitting at once, hatching 12 eggs each......................... one day

As long as I have my layers though

Yeah, mine are theoretically layers, but do I stick with egg production breeds? Noooo, I'm not smart enough for that.

If you want broody mutts, lend me a rooster and you'll be set for life.

There are 3 roosters at three different animal shelters in San Diego County looking for good homes. One is a RI rooster who is at the San Diego Animal Care and Control in Bonita, one is a RI mix rooster who is at the Escondido Humane Society and the third is a feather footed banty mix rooster who is at the San Diego Animal Care and Control in Carlsbad. I'd be happy to pick up any of these birds for any of you if someone can provide them with a good home.

Dr sent my hunny to the er today , was worried that the swelling in his throat would cut off his airway, They choose to treat it with meds and if that doesn't work they will have to go in to drain the infection. Steroids seem to be helping.

Roxie has vet tomorrow, poor dog

Would anyone be interested in two black silkie roos? They just started crowing. I need to rehome them asap. And would any interested parties of said roos be willing to trade a baby chick for them? :)
