San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I think my chicks might have gape..? They are doing the panting and head shaking. I thought the panting was because they were hot but we put a fan in the bathtub and I checked them at about 8am when it was in the 70s and the biggest one was definitely doing it. Does anyone know what feed stores that are open today have medication in the area? We are in north/central city so can go to any of them.

If the chicks are in the bath tub and have not been outside how would they have contracted Gapeworm?

If you are really sure it is I believe ivermectin will treat gapeworm.

do you have them on wood shavings? if so take it out and put in shredded paper, sometimes wood shavingsin a small space takes their breath away, hadthathappen to me once.

when its the next meet up? i want to put i day off request.

They are on wood shavings... thanks for the tip! The wood shavings are giving me problems!

Phage, they have been outside during the day.

It turns out that they were too hot. I gave them a cool bath and they stopped doing it. Maybe the wood shavings are responsible for the head shaking.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks Deb! The owner has the papers, I'll have to go see who his sire is.

Head shaking may be due to mites.

The heat is brutal out here. Lost 9 two month old chicks today. And a hen. They had water .they had food and shade. Fine this morning dead in the coop this afternoon.***!!!!! Ugh. I wanted to fall over when I found them . Deep sorrow.
