San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I am so sorry for your loss. I like the idea of bag of ice. Yesterday I came home and one of my girls was laying down in the water. I have the top of ok bird baths on the ground with water. I have out sprinklers programmed to come on for short periods during the day just so they can cool down. Still they are panting with their wings out. I have water everywhere. Poor things. I want to know about fans. I have always thought to stay away from these? I don't want them sick? Also I have been putting a little pedi light in their water?

My silkie too doesn't let one of the hens in his group? I would have thought he would have wants as many girls he could have? She is a buttercup about 3 years old and he is not a year old. she has always been around him? i only have 2 hens that are older than him and he accepts the other one. all my chickens are free ranged and get along great even the bantams. Mammas and babies are in long runs "nurseries" with their babies.

The only issue with fans is taking care that they are electrically safe. I have seen those mister rings hung infront of a fan and have the fan blowing through the mist. That will bring the air temps down a good five to ten degrees through evaporation.
