San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

JerseyHen, a BYCer from northern NJ travels over here every few months with work. She has eggs she wants to swap with SoCal BYCers. She will potentially bring eggs from other NJ users as well.

This idea could gain traction. I know she will be here just after easter with some Light Brahma LF eggs. Would anyone fancy a helping great service get off the ground and diversify their flock either with a new breed or fresh blood?

Yes I am interested in high quality heritage breeds if they are available.

I just wanted to thank Kristin (Rye Ranch) for letting me get 4 of her cream legbars. They are the cutest chicks ever! They are so mellow and quiet (for right now lol). I am very pleased!
DITTO!!!

They are so freaking cute right now!! I'll try to get a picture of them when they are out in the sun today or tmrw. Their coloring is so pretty, an they are very mellow. The ameracaunas I added to them are high strung and I'm guessing teaching these sweet ones a lot of bad habits. This is only my second batch of chicks, but this group is SO messy and destructive!!!! They are making me mental!!

The other day there was a huge ruckus in the bathroom (where their brooder box is) and I went in to find that they had..in 2 hours...emptied ALL the food and ALL the water and made a paste of it that was covering them!! I think they were trying to tell me they needed a bigger box...but it was hilarious to see the little legbars with spiky mohawks due to the mush!! unfortunately none of the pics I took turned out...

I am definitely interested in the light Brahma eggs, i am currently getting eggs from top breeders around the country in order to get the best flock of light Brahma s possible!

I am curious though does anyone here brood on wire? I mean after they go past their baby fluff and get a feather or two. I did this with my keets because while yours are baby destructos Mine were Monster trucks in the destruction department. I used a rabbit cage then layed down quarter inch plastic mesh on the bottom. Now I dont need shavings because the poo falls through. and the tray underneath is cleanable. Oh they still spilled food and water but it also went into the tray.

So how this would work.....? I would find a breeder in NJ that has eggs buy them from him and arrange for her to pick them up and bring them with her to CA. I know a breeder I want eggs from. He is in New York but I dont know exactly where.

Totally the same thing happening here! I had two little Legbar chicks, and they were as quiet as church mice. Then I added in 3 more rowdy chicks (two Wheaten Ams and an Isbar mix) and all hell broke loose!

Basically yes-

So this is how it would work in my mind. I am open to any ideas though.

A person who is traveling would post their travel dates. If they have eggs they would also post what they have. If they are willing to swap or carry, they also indicate such.

The best way would to be to find how close the supplier is to the carrier and see if they will be willing to coordinate. You (figuratively), being so grateful, would also go the extra mile to assist in helping others..

First step is to post a message on the thread linked above

Charlotte, I wanted to thank you too, for the two little silkies. We named the black one Quackers because that's the sound she makes and the grey one Vino, because she whined all the way home! They are very sweet and we can't resist holding them.

Oh I am so glad they are doing well and very happy you enjoy them. I always wonder what happen to my silkies once I sell them. I really enjoy hearing back from the new owners. So thanks again :)
