Damit..... there are lots of companies around town ranging from Biomed to Gaming.... Quicken has their main offices here too. Surprisingly a good resource for ideas is the EDD offices. The one in El Cajon has an assortment of classes ranging from Personality testing to a basic Excel class. The deal is this would be YOUR opportunity to see what areas you can slide your skills over. I know you mentioned you wanted to do something different....

I to love the El Cajon EDD office, I used their office when i was last looking 13 years ago.
Corporate america likes to lay people off as it shows a quick lowering of the overhead and usually takes longer for the slack to get noticed.
We've had 3 or 4 or 5 rounds of lay off - i can't even remember, how i manged to survive them? I work day and night, hate it, don't get much sleep, and I want to spend more time on my mini farm with my family (slice of paradise). Sadly there is no money in Chickens.....

I dream of shooting wedding photos - everyone is so happy at weddings and I love being around all the happiness. I have done the photos for 3 wedding and i did like it but I'm a perfectionist and the after editing is very time consuming. Hard to do with the farm as a spare hobby.

Another dream would be designing lights - i love chandeliers. Solar light are my new design fun.

Or opening an Esty shop to sell crafts, i know when i was looking for things like the paper craft banners for my daughters mermaid theme 5th birthday, most of them were 4 or 5 weeks out to complete orders. If you like to do that type of thing with paper crafts. I make a ton of crafts and usually give them away to all my girlfriends as I'll have to many of the same type thing. People come to buy a chicken sometimes they go home with a rock with a transferred imagine or word, But that was last months passion, Currently I'm all into old signs, flour sack towel transfers and lace crowns and solar mason jars.
Heck i could do all of them and have a farm co-op and prune trees or give lessons... or anything like that.

I say figure out what YOU LIKE TO DO- not what pays the best and then learn to make that work.

As for me, I'm planing on getting pregnant in a few months and them staying home and hopefully doing more of what i never had time to before like planning and decorating the most awesome B-day party's.... Kind of tired of all the stress and worry and not seeing my family (they're asleep when i get home) I want to start doing unschooling.

Sorry just my 2 cents that no one asked for. I'm just really, really over corporate america.....If i didn't have such great benefits... I've attached some photos of this weeks crafts, i don't sleep much, still. My husband says I'm crazy so I'm sorry if I've dropped my craziness bomb as i seem to be good at that.

I'm with you in regards to corporate america. I am totally over it. I'm sick of how they treat people like expenditures rather than assets. I'm tired of just being used and then kicked to the curb. Kinda makes me feel cheap. I know I'm worth so much more than those corporations even realize. I so wish I could just completely go off the grid and tell corporate america to shove it!

Vanna go to the EDD office in your area and see what they have to offer. No matter what sign up for Unemployment insurance its not a lot of money but its better than nothing. You do that on line. But the EDD classes qualify for job search equivalency. They only go a partial day too.

The deal is the services they offer is a HUGE database and the kinds of jobs that aren't offered through the normal avenues. There is also tools for you to "explore" what you may want to do next. The testing tools they have will allow you to find out what your modality is. and Possibly give you a clue to a direction. Often times we wind up in professions while we are good at them they don't necessarily fit in with your personality so you make do.... make compromises.... My compromises now have given me two nervous break downs.

For instance I am or was a Senior Level Mechanical Designer. But I test out as having the innate ability to be a councilor or a teacher..... I wanted to be a writer in High school.... but I love love love dealing with people. My happiest times was when I was a Cashier of some sort in a retail store.

So Right now I am writing a book. Sci Fi adventure . and for a small income I am caregiving for my Grandmother. I NEED to find some sort of ON line job for a better income because I am not old enough to really retire.

This is a funny Turkey story. I love the comments and can't wait till there is more!
LOL.... JUst as a side note... kind of ironic as well but Ramona used to be known as the Turkey capitol of the World.

From Wikipedia article on Ramona:

"At one time Ramona was known as the "Turkey Capital of the World." Turkey production flourished during the 1930s, and the industry was featured with popular annual Turkey Days celebrations. Turkey production went into sharp decline following World War II, and ended completely by 1959.[39]"

Have you fired it up yet? How do you like it? Is it stable? I am interested in comparing it to the Ova-Easy we just got. =)

The old used Dickey I had was reliable and steady as it could be - loved that bator!

It's here! It's here! And it's getting all warmed up in anticipation of eggs going in tomorrow...

I just realized that you can fit 180 eggs in there. DANGEROUS!!! Thank you, Mr. Dickey! Best customer service I think I've ever had.

Like i was saying I'm a bit crazy. I think i would be happier off grid. I'm a very hard worker. But i do most of my work for an entity that does not really owe me anything, I could be laid off tomorrow like it was nothing.

I'm in the thought pattern that i rather go get a 50 lb bag of beans and rice and not have to work so hard. If i didn't have the family that i did i would go try and get a farm job if its what you like. I bet there is farms that would offer room and bored on site in exchange for help around the farm, maybe you'd have to do something else to to have some cash, but if the big bills were out of the way i really think that would open the door to happiness. IDK I'm just really ready for a change and kind of wish i was on that lay off list, really feel like I'd get to re-make my self and be more dedicated to my family and mini farm where if i could grow enough food......Maybe can and sell home grown organic food, i believe there is a big Market for that.

San Diego County Agriculture Facts

sdFarming.jpg

Why is Farming Important to San Diego County?

  • $5.1 billion annual value to the economy
  • Locally produced products available to the public
  • Viable farms are a hedge against urban growth
  • Carbon sequestration from millions of plants and trees
  • Farmers maintain vast amounts of open spaces
  • Intrinsic part of the fabric of San Diego County
Where San Diego County Ranks Nationally

  • 12th largest farm economy among more than 3000 counties
  • More small farms (less than 10 acres) than any other county
  • #1 producer of avocados
  • #1 producer of nursery crops
  • #1 in number of part-time farmers
  • #2 in acres of guavas, pomegranates, limes, and macadamias
  • #2 in farms with women as principal operator
  • #3 in honey production
  • #5 in lemons
  • #9 in strawberries
  • #10 in egg-laying hens

San Diego's Mediterranean-like climate makes it an ideal place to grow agricultural crops and livestock products. More than 2.6 million people live in San Diego County, and more than 6,000 farmers call it home and make their living on 6,565 small family farms, 65 percent of which are nine or fewer acres in size. The high cost of water (more than $600/acre foot) and land make farming here expensive and encourage growers to raise products with a high dollar value per acre.

If you like to farm also visit other people with successful farms and follow there MO. Look at the lady with the camel farm. who would have ever thunk it to use camel milk for things like soap?

Here is my craziness, so sorry, Corporate America was the money backer of the women's feminist movement. If you have women in the work force your labor pool double overnight! Now you can lower wages since you labor pool is bigger. Women couldn't go to work until there where someplace for the kids to go - In comes public school, also backed by corporate America. Here we are birthing children we no longer see and working for someone bottom line so there stock can close better, where they make money from nothing because they new there would be a huge lay off and there bottom line goes up. So sorry , i know i'm kind of angry i feel like a well used rug that never knew it was a rug but thought it was a tapestry on the wall. I've been practicing de-programming.
