San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Hi, I would like to introduce myself Helen & my boyfriend Tony. I have raised poultry in the past for years but because of life changes, ie: moving to S.D. four years ago.
And loving it I might add...I had to stop for awhile. Tony mentioned one day he'd always wanted to raise chickens, well that's all he had to say!!!
We started off slowly in our chicken raising but as everyone knows that doesn't last long when you love chickens!
So over the last two years we have added to our collection of beautiful fowl and started hatching, etc... We currently have a pair of Jubilee Orpingtons and
are awaiting our trio of Sicilian Buttercups. I do a lot of research on breeds, breeders and everything else to do with our passion.
We have met many wonderful people in the San Diego Chicken community & we are loving it!
Here are some pictures of our life w/chickens: Our ranch name which represents Tony's Sicilian Heritage, One of my favorite things to walk by and see all the chicks sleeping together, some of our BYC egger girls enjoying a treat, Tony with one of the D'uccles, Driving home with gretchen our frizzle loves car rides lol, new brooder box
Hi Helen, I am deb Welcome to the San Diego BYC... LOL.

I live in Jacumba.

Omy goodness how cute is that Fizzle going for a car ride.

Like Knock KNeed Hen said we have meetups and they are a blast. Usually about three or four in the summer and then some of us head up for some meetups in Norco as well. Lots of fun the usual potluck kind of event. With some yummy hommade canned goodies cheese goodies and Sometimes Chef Glenn brings down his home roasted coffee..... Yummmy.

:welcome Helen and Tony and all your little chickies!! :jumpy

OffGridMAMA, the next meet up is in it's early stages of planning. It'll be announced by the hostess when some details are worked out.
Don't we live in an absolutely beautiful country!!

Hi! We bought our chicks today. Two two week olds and one three week old. Here is a pic of my son with them at the feed store :)

and our half-built very purple coop that we now have to hurry up and finish!

LOVE the purple!! Can't wait to see it all finished. The roof is super cute. Your little boy is going to quickly become chicken addicted. We have lots of kids in our local meet up group.

Thanks for the welcome :) Knock kneed, we have several friends from our former elementary school that have chickens. That was how we convinced DH, all it took was a cuddle and a few eggs for breakfast.

Babies are chirping and exploring the bathtub and taking a dust bath. One caught a moth last night, boy they moved fast and shouted a lot!

I'd still like one more or two bantams. Does anyone know if anyone has any welsummer baby girls around? Hawthorne had slightly older ones but they were quite a bit bigger than the ones we got and I was worried they would peck one of them.

Hey all,

I have a bunch of roos that need to be processed and a TON of projects to do. As such, I'm having a guy come to my house and do that all at once. If anyone has one or two that you need to get done (or more), you can bring them to my house in Rainbow/Fallbrook next Saturday (8/17), early am and get them done for $5 each. Just thought I would let everyone know as I know the question/issue has come up in the past.
