Do you guys keep the chicks with their mother?

I would like to have the four dark chicks and could exchange for plants also. I am betting that those babies will be snapped up in no time at all, so I better be there (at the meet-up) early.

Sunny - I hadn't thought of that connection...dieting being easier than chicken collecting. Maybe I could combine the two and reward myself with a chicken for every 5 lbs lost or something. Now there's incentive! Much better than dark chocolate as a reward. I can see it now, I'll be a svelt skinny woman with lots of chickens in no time!

I have lots of silkie chicks to go around. Mine are all black and blue but I may have a few additional colors in the incubator that will be ready before the 20th. They are very nice ones.

Thanks all for supporting me with "Leah", it was a little difficult convincing hubby I should add another ducky to the flock. I feel pretty good about it and am glad you all understand and appreciate me doing this. She is doing great today, and her poo is starting to look normal. She did a few playful jump attacks on me this morning with lots of chatter. I can see her and duck duck have lots in common, she also enjoyed chasing the chickens. She must be feeling better.

I plan to call the senior ranger back tomorrow to discuss meeting up in Mission Trails, it seems to be close to the middle for everyone. Just off the 8 and it's nice. I will let you all know as soon as I speak with him.

I also thought about Old Poway Park since it seemed Central, but I have never been there or seen it and don't know if that would be possible or if it would accomodate us.

So many people, not just BYCers are interested and asking where it's going to be. I want to try to get this set up asap so we can relay the info. I have a feeling it may be even bigger than last time, the word is out.
I like the idea of Mission Trails because they are alright with events and have the space. They allow pets and have contact numbers for the rangers so we can be sure. I would hate to have our giant group sent away because they don't want a huge bunch of people with a LOT of chickens, ducks, dogs etc. There is 5200 acres there, the Lake Murray area alone has 64 picnic tables. I would like to find an easy to find spot with lots of room and tables for us, I'll talk to the ranger.

I do when momma hatches them. If I incubate then I keep them in the brooder.

Sunny- I had already planned and began working on a website after the first meetup with the ideas I gave you for classifieds, breeder list etc. but I hadn't secured a domain yet and planned on doing it when finished after talking to everyone and getting their input about features they may want etc. I expected it to be a topic at the next meetup since I had the outline ready.

-When you said you already secured paid for domains I didn't want it to be for nothing. I will help you build it if you need me.

I still want to work on what I started and hope you wouldn't be offended if I eventually launched an additional website.

I will help you however I can with what your doing, your setup has more limited capabilities so I'm not sure how much function it will have for members to list for sale ads and things like that, you will likely have to input their info manually each time you add information.
I also would be concerned with having copyrights and a privacy policy for member's pictures/info not to be used elsewhere etc. Also be careful using anything off the internet to avoid trademark and copyright infringement (pics and writings), plus be sure not to have anything at all similar to sandiegochickens.com in Texas or we could have cybersquatting issues with the dot net. Trust me I have experience with this..
Just some notes as you have to be super careful with these types of things, especially in sue-happy California.

Let me know if you need some help with coding and adding functions and I'll try to help you figure out a way with what you've got.

We'll have to patent our diet as the "BYC Weightloss Rewards Plan"

It just might be the best diet ever! So, how will it go, lose 5 lbs, gain a chicken? Gain 5 lbs, lose a chicken?
