San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Awww......... that is so darn cute. She looks like she is Overwhelmed.

I have a feeder like yours in the corner. I looked high and low today for another and could not find it. Maybe they will bring more things out for sale when it is warmer? It will be too late for me. It is the perfect size for the 4 week old chicks.

CAChickenNewbie - OUCH! That's one enormous egg!!! Hey I saw a picture of your condo-coop, I have the same one from Craigslist.

Tonight the wind was howling and I couldn't keep the tarp over the dog kennel with my two new little girls in it, so I put them in the coop with the big girls. Just went to check on them, so far so good. The condo coop made it through the big storm we had pre- Christmas, so I figure it's the best place for them. They've all been free-ranging together now for a week or so, and other than the smallest being chased by the largest, no harm no "fowl"

I did some in integration last night too, Michele. My two (nearly 6month old) pullets went in the coop with the big girls last night. I snuck them in after dark. They did fine last night, I think they all are a bit suprised to see each other this morning, and my two younger ones are hiding behind the food dispenser, but no one looks like they are being injured or anything. If they can stay in there, that frees up some space for me!
Cara, love your chicken math equation. I'm going to be VERY tempted by all those great chickens tomorrow!

Update on my beat up Buff Orp: She's doing very well, her comb is healing nicely. The damage to her beak isn't stopping her from eating, and I think she's really feeling at home in the house....

I think I may have to always keep her separate.

CAChickenNewbie, I had to go check out your coop since enzolove brought it up. You have such a nice place!! I love your little touches. It looks so homey, your yard is paradise.
I love the yellow interior.

Okay, now I have to comment on that egg. WHOA BETSY!!!

to those that helped with the food delivery. Hope the weather holds out for the meet up! We were supposed to get snow last night but now they say the cold front will hit us tonight.

This is a reoccuring theme with the weather report up here....50% chance they'll get it right.

ETA: Well, it's trying to snow up here. At least it's sticking. Doesn't feel cold though. LOVE no wind! Coop was 42 degrees inside this morning.

Nancy - the Country Feed Store in Vista had those feeders - I am going there today for some dog food - do you want one if they have them?

CAChickenNewbie - ouch - poor girl! Let us know what's inside....

To Cari and all that helped coordinate the feed yesterday - thank you! Looking forward to tomorrow - btw, are we just bringing our own sack lunches...or?

Empireranch: If it is not too much trouble that would be GREAT. If they have ample stock, can you grab me 2? It would be nice to rotate them because I throw them in the dishwasher when they get messy. I am sure I bought mine around here but I went to a bunch of places yesterday and none had them. I would like the one in the picture, they had some w/ the spacers and those do not work as well with the young ones for me. I will bring extra cash in case your luck is better than mine.

Thanks so much!

I am attempting to make buffalo wings to bring for the meet up. I gotta use the crock pot so they will be hot, no time to cook the morning of since i will be getting there early to set up - hopefully they come out ok.

Phage is bringing a dessert. It's still a potluck, just haven't gotten the info from everyone. If anyone wants to add what they are bringing I will update. I started a list on pg 1, but only had Phage there.

Phage - dessert

Tigerlilly - chicken wings

* It now says rain in the morning before 10am, then should clear out - but who knows when it keeps changing!!! At least we won't be fighting for enough picnic tables.

We got over 2 inches of rain here in Ramona yesterday, so the park may be a bit soggy. I think we should all wear boots! I'm going to throw in some tarps, too, just in case we need to manufacturer some dry ground.

I have no idea what to bring... guess I'll head over to the store today and see what I can come up with. I'll make sure it's some sort of warm lunch item... maybe meatballs? Hmmmm. Maybe I ought to go to Costco instead.

CrazyHuhn - PMing you now. I keep forgetting!

I will bring something but not quite sure what yet. Will see if I am in the baking mood tonight and if not, I will buy something on my way down.
