Nice, why does chicken always look bigger on TV?

Just wanted to say ‘Hello” – I have met a few of you here and there and a few more at the meet-up in Ramona – I came home with 7 birds!
I am in Valley Center and have LOTS (understatement) of chickens and several different breeds – from standards to bantams. I specialize in Serama’s and have 50+. In fact I just set 46 Serama eggs in the bator 3 days ago. However, I don’t show my birds nor do I want to – I just enjoy them and I enjoy educating people on proper care and what great pets/friends they are.
I love my birds – every single one of them!!! I appreciate the enthusiasm I read on this forum for chickens! I would take in every animal in need if I could.
Just last night I met up with Tammy and took 2 cute ducks, 1 big beautiful Silkie Roo – YOYO, and 7 silkie babies home & added them to ever growing flock(s)!! Thank you Tammy – all are doing well today.
I have attached a few pictures of some of my birds. Hope I can make the next meet up and meet more of my follow chicken lovers- take care.

Laurelm beautiful birds !!

Can anyone answer my question about the Brinsea Octagon or whatever it is called about humidity ? Is there a way to add water to the unit without opening it up ? I would imagine that there is but I did not find instructions about this issue as I read about the product and I do not want to spend the additional $$$ for the humidity control item ?
Why isn't there another product like this unit to give some competition to the British Company so that the price was not so high.

I am thinking of buy one and using my LG as a brooder for the fresh hatchlings so they do not contaminate the other eggs. I bet I could get better results form the LG if I learned how to mange it correctly. I have learned not to open the unit up until day 18 but I still did not have a decent hatch since only my own eggs lived the make it out and so many of the shipped eggs did develop fully.

Hi everybody. Sorry I have been hiding, just had a lot of things to take care of. I wanted to thank everyone once again for all you had put into the meetups and for all your generosity. Everything was great once again.
Thanks flower for letting me take home the showgirl. He is a so cute, I love him. He is getting along well here and is happily running around with the others doing the usual chickeny things. Thanks Nancy for thinking of me even though I wouldn't have minded if you sold your little ones too, that was sweet of you. Thanks Crazy Huhn for the mealworms, I am going to have to buy some next time around, it makes it 10x easier to get the chicks to "warm up" and my sugar glider loves them too. Thanks RockerChic for the bookmark, I absolutely love it and am using it already, I need to make some of those as I have tons of books I'm working with right now and they are just so cute. Thanks all for the wonderful yummy food and for all the attention Leah got, she was a happy duck that day. Thanks Cara for coming early and helping me set up. Thanks Cari for all the work you did for everyone to get their feed.
Really I could go on and on... you all are awesome!

Laurel - Thanks for giving YoYo and the mallards a good home (and the baby silkies). It so nice to know they are going to be happy and well taken care of. I hope you can come next time and see us at the next meetup, I really enjoyed our talk and would love to do it again.
Thank you for inviting me to come to your place, and you are always welcome to come by mine also. Your birds are gorgeous I'd love to see them in person someday. If you ever feel like coming by and chatting chicken over coffee, feel free to give me a call!

I fed some of Crazy Huhn's mealworms to the killdeer and some of the ducks today. I had to distract the coots with some seed while I placed them out for the killdeer. I didn't see them eat much of the first batch, but I did see one eat the second batch. I'm not sure if he connected me with the mealworms, but he watched me as I went to check to see if they were gone.

But, don't tell anyone, because killdeer are protected and you're not supposed to be "harassing" them.

Kev - It's too bad you didn't make it this time, we had lots of seramas there. Me, Laurel, and Cara all raise them. I will bring some more next time. I am so interested in genetics, but it's puzzling (which is what makes it so interesting to me) and I am still learning. I'd love to talk about that with you sometime.

Tammy I am happy to hear that Albert the showgirl is enjoying his new home. He was all alone here since I have no other bantams other that his "mate" who will have nothing to do with him. What a prima donna. She is taking her mothering job very seriously though. So much fun to watch the different chicken personalities. In my new batch of chicks the EE are looking to be the largest. If it isn't too windy tomorrow I will put them outside to peck in the dirt and get some sunshine exposure.

Kev I bought a turken chick at the feed store, Hope it is a hen so she will make some pretty eggs for me. Hatchery birds are all I need for now. I can not get to serious about crossing and genetics because I have other interests and limited funding for each hobby.

Miriam thank you so much for all the lovely plants. Most of them have been dug into the ground and some in pots until I ran out of them. I am so delighted to have success at growing whatever I can get to flourish in this arid place of extreme temperatures. Most lilies and iris do well and this year I am trying to grow Peonies and Dahlias.

I didn't know his name! He is not alone here and seems to be enjoying it, he's such a character. My silkie roo "DoJo" (used to be "DoDo" but he does karate now.. lol) kept dancing circles around him and they sparred a bit, but both of them are just silly and nobody gets hurt. All in all I think he is pretty entertained, he enjoys just sitting in the sun watching the little serama gang run around, he hasn't put the moves on my silkie hen "NoNo" ...yet. I think he is still a little shy. I had him on quarantine, but he wanted out so bad. Now he is just getting used to socializing while ranging instead of behind bars. He's a good boy and didn't belong in jail! Today was his first day out.​
