Most pullet will not sit on their first batch of eggs.....

My OEGB pullets have been laying since February, they are a bit older than my boys. My roos are approaching 6 months of age, and they've been paired up with a hen for at least 6 weeks or more. I've seen them mating with the girls, so I'm hoping there are some fertile eggs in the batch!

I was hoping for one of my LF ladies to go broody, I have 6 nice LF ladies, and no LF roo for them yet...3 are over a year old, and 3 are about 8 months
old, all have been laying for a while, but it looks like I'll have to rely on Jacob's incubator!!

Edited for strange Serama typing in the middle there.... Sorry.

My broody is still being a good mamma! She has about 10 eggs under her and I've only seen her get up once!

I've got a broody little mille fleur BC (from Lynne), she's been that way for about a week. She's not nasty about it though, I just have to
pick her up to get the eggs each day, and then she purrs at me!

Must be the spring and love in the air!

Seriously when it rains it POURS. When you don't want them you get them. Well, I have been so busy that I have not picked up eggs yesterday because I spent the WHOLE day w/ my mom and family. Buff Rock and her sister are broody and now my Black Australorp is BROODY.

I am sure if I had a leghorn it would go against the odds and be broody too. Do you think I can rent them all out??????

To make matters worse, the offspring from one of the scruffy hens from Alison has decided to CROW.

I've got a Salmon Faverolle that's also trying to be broody... I do NOT need any more babies around here!

All my little ones are getting so darn big. My mama broody has been taking her chicks out with the rest of the flock, but they are still sleeping in the tack room. The Ameraucanas are in a big plastic pool in my house, amusing our cat on a daily basis.

Question: are the Blue and Black Ameraucanas as easily sexable as the Wheatens? These guys are very close to three weeks old.

Now you be nice to that little guy!! Pics???

All of my australorps are broody. I apologize to them each day as I clean out all the eggs under them. ALL of my birds are looking scruffy these days.

NO! To your question. I have Lavender and Lavender Splits and I could not sex them until now. I say that because 3 of them have started to CROW. I would have to look but I think they were hatched in January. They are not nearly as easy as the Wheatons. Sorry.

I'll try to get a pic of him. I keep forgetting. There is always so much to do around here. I did not expect him to crow yet since he is still so tiny. I knew all along it was a HE but maybe hanging around the bantams has worn off on him??????? He was hatched w/ 4 silkie bantams and they have been best buddies ever since. They hang out together and sleep together. Never ever far apart from one another. The scruffy hens offspring is fiesty and picks on everyone even though he is on the small side. Remind you of anyone???? I think the Buff Orpington is his mother.

I am getting weak and may put some eggs under them but up until now, I have been clearing the eggs since the eggs will not be fertile. The egg layers are in one coop and the others are all running wild in my yard. I have to have another coop built for everyone else. I will have to have a third one built if I let these broodies hatch out eggs.

Hi - Do any of you know how to reach perchie.girl? She hasn't been on line for a while (I think since April 30) and I just hatched out some guineas for her. She hasn't answered emails so if you know how to reach her let her know I'm trying to get in touch.

Thanks,

Lois

well i think my girl has come to her senses.

she's toned it down on the broodiness. though it would be nice for her to hatch some chicks, we are really not set up for that right now anyway.

it was interesting while it lasted.
