Cari - isn't it bizarre how things work out? I will probably be wrong with my sex guessing anyway... at least your Wheaten crew is easy to ID. Will you be hatching more?

Dana

Yes! As soon as mine start laying I will be hatching out all the babies... don't think I am going to invest in any more though, I've sunk enough money into this project as it is.

I split my coop yesterday, and moved all eight babies out there last night. They seem to be doing pretty well, and are playing nicely with each other. Hopefully I'll only need to segregate them for a few more days, as I'm sure they'd like to be out with the big kids.

Now I get the grand joy of cleaning my poor playroom, which has tons of shavings and poop on the floor from those wild Ameraucana babies... who's jealous?

I LOATHE shavings, but have yet to find a reasonable substitute. They get EVERYWHERE! I usually put the brooder in the bathtub, 'cause its easy to clean, but in a small room, the smell concentrates even worse!

I am brooder-free right now!! Well, maybe until Friday... HatchingFever has a couple of my OEGB eggs in the 'bator. I gave him 5 to try, and 3 were no good, so if I'm lucky, I might have two?? But I know many things can happen, so I'm not counting my chickens until they hatch.

I am enjoying having the house a little cleaner, but I am missing the constant cheeping... those are very sweet sounds.

Did we ever pick another date for an official SD get-together? I know the SoCal and Serama show have kept everybody pretty busy lately.

Yeah, I miss you guys, the last 2 meetups just weren't the same without all you "Sandyeggers"!

Sure did meet some nice new folks though..
Let's plan one.

San Diego really needs to get themselves a health person so they can issue us permits.. I mean what?!

How is it that you can possibly keep a potbelly pig as a pet and not chickens? Well.. I suppose pot belly pigs can be trained to poo in certain areas but I mean what anyway?!

Dogs make more noise than hens do, pigs tend to be a bit on the stinky side themselves, How is a chicken any different than a cokatiel or a parakeet (except for sheer size)?! Sorry.. a pet is only as clean as the owner is and in my own defense and to the defense of all those out there who own suburban chickens we are CLEAN any human who is unable to properly clean up after their own pets (whether feathered, fur covered or covered in scales) should not be allowed to maintain any kind of animal... that said people who can prove themselves clean owners should be allowed to have their fuzzy or feathery pets...

ok... looks like I have a ton of reading to do

sorry I couldn't help but post before I read all two hundred pages (lol) hope to be able to chat with all of you soon!

What part of the city do you live in. If you live in the county things are a little more relaxed. But even in the city the laws are 50 feet from any residence. Those laws have been on the books for aeons and often times no one cares. Its just that one nasty neighbor

or busy body into everyone else's business.... that is a problem. Sigh. I had chickens in Santee for about a year off of Prospect. Everyone of my neighbors was happy to get eggs now and then... I have since moved to some land out in East County.

Check out the Chicken laws section too there may be some help or advice there too.
