Crazy - You can also feed straight chopped garlic and add ACV to water to make the intestines PH uninhabitable for roundworms. Hulled pumpkin seeds paralyze worms and help them to expel them. You can't give too much of any of these.
Maybe you under-dosed with the ivermec, it should last 6 weeks. For the first few days after you use it, you should see them coming out in the droppings alot and then decreasing until you see none. It's easy to under-dose with the ivermectin pour on, if it is absorbed by the feathers it is wasted, it has to be directly on skin and should be done on the back between wings/shoulders for even release into the system.

I will put the ACV back in the drinking water. Have not done that for a couple month. Will buy some pumpkin seeds, too - in the past I was feeding entire pumpkins with flesh and seeds. I have never tried the chopped garlic, because I was afraid that it would cause the eggs to be off- flavored. How much do you feed per bird?

Not sure with the Ivermectin: because I had seen the worms, I made sure that each bird had a minimum of 0.5cc between wings/shoulders on the back skin and not on the feathers. In the past I might have dewormed myself by getting some of it on myself, but that was not the case the last time. I just hope that the worms to not build up resistance to any of my dewormers that fast. So I will add all the above mentioned things ASAP, Wazine is in the drinking water as of today for at least 24 hrs. In 10 to 12 days I will decide on a follow-up dewormer (Valbazen and Ivermectin pour-on is what I do have at home, but any other recommendations are appreciated).

Oh so sorry to hear Anke!!!

Honestly I've heard Ivermectin and Valbazen to be the best, I don't know what you can do except keep re-treating... are you sure they are round worms and not tape? Tape can be more difficult to get rid of... are you having mite problems too or just worms?

Just want to say thank you to Cari & Tammy for the advise about Ivermectin. I am in the process of putting it on all my birds. Glenn helped my yesterday do all my seramas - we weighed them, banded them according to class and dewormed! Thanks Glenn - you're the best! I would have like to use frontline but it's just to expensive and I have too many birds. So every evening when they start to roost I am doing a coop at a time and then banding so I know who's done!

Anke - I use jars of prechopped garlic, juice and all, about a tbs per bird is plenty.
"Cucurbitin" is what paralyzes worms, it is present in the pumpkin seed, not in the shell so if it isn't hulled or at least chopped it won't do the job well enough since the chickens can't actually chew it up. Try hulled, unroasted, unsalted seeds from Henry's or Whole Foods Market.

Laurel - glad we could help. Supplementing garlic and vinegar may also help in your situation since mites suck blood and probably dislike the acidity same as fleas and other mites. I do know it helps dogs with fleas or mange, so different bug but same principle.

So sorry, Anke! How disappointing for you, and for your broody mama...

I am about to go bonkers here over squirrels - good Lord, we have a surplus crop of them this spring! They keep finding ways to get back into the babies' area of the coop, and eat all of their food. I've had to resort to completely locking down the coop during the day, and putting some auxiliary nest boxes in my barn for the hens. Absolutely ridiculous. I need a squirrel dog!

My better half was reading the Ramona paper the other day, and asked me if I knew what a "sair-rah ma" was. It took me a minute to figure out was he was referring to: serama! He saw the article about the show next weekend (with Cara's name all over it!) and asked me if I was going. I guess he's now 100% accepting of a chicken-enhanced lifestyle...

So sorry Huhn!! It's so frustrating to have to deal with parasites. I did pretty much the same thing you did earlier this year, but the second round seemed to take care of the problem. I keep saying I'm going to put wire over the outside of my chain link run so that the wild birds don't come in, but I've yet to do it. I was throwing my inedible eggs over the fence for the ravens. I like having the ravens around because they keep the hawks away! (My neighbor shoots them because he wants the hawks around to eat the ground squirrels). There's so much more to this "chickening" business than I ever thought possible!!

Hi Everyone, Trying to catch up. Have not been on too much. I got hurt by one of my chicks. It flew out of the coop and got me in the eye. Been pretty overwhelmed and exhausted. I hope everyone else and their animals are doing well.

Congrats SunnyCA! That is one cute chick. I have my fingers and toes crossed for you that you do not have my kind of luck. I so hope it is a girl so you can keep it.

Crazy Huhn, I am so sorry.

That is so sad.

I will try to keep track and see when the next meet up will be so that I can come. Just so hard to get away w/ so many animals to take care of. Plus my cars are on their way out and I feel uncomfortable driving the distance in them.
