I have to disagree with Cari on feeding "Layer" to your babies. Layer usually has way too much calcium and will damage the kidneys of growing baby chicks. Layer usually has less protein than chick starter, which might be OK for a week, but I would never ever feed my precious baby chicks just layer because I run out of starter. Before I would do that, I would better buy a non-organic starter than feeding layer. If you think that a bag of non-organic starter is too much until you get the organic MM, try to call around: there are feed stores like East County Feed in Santee, that do sell bulk organic starter by the pound. That is what I did last time I had baby chicks, just to get over the first few days.

I think Country Feed in Vista has some organic pride chick starter.

Kahoots in Ramona also sells Kruse's organic chick starter... I know that's not very convenient from Fallbrook!

I would MUCH rather feed just a week of ORGANIC layer than NON-organic chick starter. Non organics have all kinds of poisons including arsenic, that would be much more harmful than just a little extra calcium, and I do agree that too much calcium can damage chick kidneys but it takes time to do that, and I doubt it would in just a week.

I have a bag of the Modesto Chick Starter here that I could give you and then you could give it back to me when our order comes in. (If you want!)

I think I will err on the side of caution. If you can definitely spare it, Cari, then I will take it. Thank you! When can I retrieve it?

And thanks for everyone's suggestions and aid.
