San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

BTW I do NOT have a frizzle to add to the mix! I am not using the buff laced polish due to his buff color.

We have the same taste in birds. I'll sit and wait for you to do all the work! Lovely NN btw

This is a terrible picture of a very ugly egg...

I think my other black ameraucana has finally started to lay. This egg was on the floor of the coop, is
streaked with blood and has some sort of weird calcium layer on it. It is blue underneath all the other
yucky stuff... I may try to clean it up and see it the looks improve.

Deb,
I know who to go to for the science questions. How cool is that gelatin thing? You may have opened a bad box, though, as the residents of my household thought that those floaty things in vinegar were a little odd, but now that we are of course going to try the same thing with body parts (albeit non-human), they may start to think that the next step is going to be finding something in my freezer that will require a prison term. I am off to buy a chunk of a turkey, and Daniel will be thrilled.

P.S. I think the ugly egg is prep for the CSI freezer thing (above). I had one today that has two flat sides and I thought that was interesting, but that one tops it.

I am coming to the conclusion that there is a huge underground chicken movement in Clairemont, but maybe not so underground anymore. Pt. Loma has it covered, too...

Hello, team -

So maybe this has been covered up here before (still haven't made it through the 14,798 pages of the SD posts), but now that everyone is legal around here, have we thought about doing a San Diego Coop Tour? Last year Jeannie and my husband (Rick) and I actually flew up to Portland just for the Tour de Coops. It was very, very neat, and some of the chicken houses made me feel like my coop budget wasn't so bad after all. We have footage of that one, and Rick is working on a quick documentary (he has an audio studio here, and shoots documentary films as a side-hobby-but-becoming-business thing), but the mortgage comes first, so...

We could call it...
The San Diego Chicken Tour
Sandy Eggo Tour
Surf Coop Tour
California Chick Tour

I fried all 14 of my creative brain cells shooting for a chicken hat last weekend. Does anyone have any ideas, and is anyone interested? My Mom would do it, as would I, as would Jeannie, so there's three coops. Anyone else?

OMG Compost Girl.... You have sooo much energy... I love it.

I am a Science Geek, Mecanical designer, and Sometiems engineer. ALL self taught.

With regard to the tour.
We could call it a Coop Crawl..... Hee hee

I think it would be fun. BTW mine is Waaay too far out of town.

And mine's no fun. You've already been here...

Ramona is pretty chicken-rich, too. You can't hardly throw a handful of scratch without hitting (several) chicken coops.

I have chicks hatching at Renee's house this morning!
