Well, I'm not eating them.

My mom is going blow out a bunch of them since they are pretty Marans eggs. I could probably incubate them too, as they were in with a Blue Copper & Splash Marans roosters. Hmmm... how long does sperm stay in there?

Up to one month.

Well you DO have a brand new incubator... .and you DO have Marans eggs fertilized by a Marans rooster, so...

You guys are all just a big bunch of enablers.

I will not be the poor old lady who gets eaten by cats. I will instead be pecked to death by the twelve thousand chickens that will soon be stashed in every nook and cranny of this property... please remember me fondly.

That's silly, no one says you have to keep the babies!

Do it Dana. Since KKH is addicted to having meets

and since so many folks are raising chickens, there will be plenty of new homes for your chicks ! All you need to do is show some of those blow out eggs so people can see the color of the shell. Many of us really like to have a bountiful, colorful collection of eggs and I have found that Marsns are rather mellow birds and make great mixes also. (I like my mixes )

Nancy - thank you! I just came home with two new hens... I got a beautiful, stunning Blue Copper Marans, and her (not quite as gorgeous but still really nice nonetheless) Splash Copper sister. They were kind enough to lay me an egg on the way home, and it's about a six - I'm thrilled! They are in semi-isolation now until I make sure all is well. Pictures soon!

They had a LOT of chickens up there: Marans, Easter Eggers (and they actually called them EEs instead of "Americanas" - I was happy about that), Silkies, turkeys and more. There were a lot of blue and lavender birds in there, too, plus a whole pen of juvies I didn't even check out. It's a bit of a hike up there, but the price sure was right for some nice birds. I told the owner I'd spread the word to our SD Chicken Club.

Side note: how long do you think it will take when transitioning over to my feed for the eggs to be considered organic? Hmmm.

Second side note: all three of my horse stalls are now filled with chickens. Sigh.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so glad you are happy with them! (This is Lindsey btw the lady who sold them to you lol) I didn't know you were on byc I had posted that same ad on here before but no one must have seen it :( But I'm glad they went to such a loveing home! Its been hard having to sell all my birds but know that they are going to a good home helps

If you did want to hatch their eggs they will be pure marans and should be fertile for quite some time! Thanks again!
Here is a Craigslist posting for some lots of layers. Some Marans. I am trying to restrain myself from going and getting a few.....

And thank you for sharing my ad!

What kind of combs??

Andalusian X Ameracauna
Marans X Ameracauna
Easter Egger X Ameracauna

I got these lovely mixed eggs from Dana, 4 babies hatched and are 2 weeks old, and doing great! I"m just wondering what to look for?

The Andy x Am I have here (now almost four weeks) has a teeny, tiny little single comb. (It's definitely a pullet. Friendliest little baby!) Is yours blue or black? (Mine is black.)

I have juvies (14 weeks) of the other crosses - all have pea combs. All of mine are black pullets, and pretty much look like Ameraucanas with feathered shanks... it's like all of the Marans look got wiped away!

Here's the EE x Am cross - no leg feathers. The others look just like her, except for leg feathering.
