San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I took a few poultry pictures at the fair yesterday... there were some very pretty birds there!

Okay - not poultry. But look at that face!

One ginormous turkey. I couldn't quite figure out where his eyeballs were.

This guy was asleep standing up.

Pretty girl... I liked her a lot.

This guy liked to pose. I don't think I've ever seen such a clean chicken before.

This comb looked sculpted - it was perfect!

Hellooooooooo..... (Loved his pretty markings.)

This may be the coolest duck I've ever seen; he/she was absolutely iridescent. SO beautiful!

And yes... goats.

I took a bunch of horse show and flower pictures, too. It was a fun day!

Oh that Sheeple face is squishably kissable... The pretty duck is a Cayuga. They are sooo pretty.

deb (edited to prove in fact I can spell Cayuga)

Gorgeous pictures!! The birds were super crowded when we were there, it was hard to get a super close look. I think next year (or next week) I need to just invest in a ticket for myself and GO by myself so I can see everything. this taking kids and or husbands just cramps my style;) Well, husbanD...only one, don't worry!

I have some rabbits that I need to rehome, would make good pets. 1 netherland buck, 1 netherland doe, 2 mini rex bucks. No rehoming fee to my byc friends, (I just want them to have good homes) - PM me if you want pictures.

Thanks for posting those awesome pics of the fair. I still have not made it (though I can HEAR it from the house). REALLY wanted to go and see the birds. Does anyone know how long then stay for?

I was just packing up some of the ameraucana x cream legbar chicks for someone this morning and thought of taking some pics. Thinking of making them my layers next year but can't seem to hold on the them for more than a week.
The bigger chicks are a week old, the others in the box are a few days. The CLx exchequer leghorn or Brabanter all have a white head spot regardless of sex, so sadly not sexible as far as I can tell. I just LOVE these projects though the genetics is sometimes too mind boggling.

I think yesterday was the last day the chickens were there. :( I think it is rabbits and guinea pigs now

The Turkey races are going on for the duration of the fair though - and it is definately one worth seeing.

There will be market chickens and turkeys the last week of the fair. They aren't as pretty as the ones shown the first week, all white commercial breeds but they will be very tasty for who ever buys them. Also the little green ducks are east indies. They kind of look like mini Cayugas.

Just wanted to post a pic of my first ever chick hatched from under one of my broodies! The daddy is a gray silkie and I haven't figured out who the mommy is. It's either a black Australorp, a Rhode Island Red, a Plymouth Partridge Rock or a BLR Wyandotte. Anyone care to take a guess?

I know I know.... its Half Silkie. LOL. I havent a clue but its pretty darn cute.
