San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Courtesy of the local home owners asoc.**** we have some super nice speckled sussex chicks up for grabs.

They hatched last night. I don't even want to see how nice they look as I won't be keeping them

Also have a few swedish flower hen chicks (and pullets) and some peachicks. Please pm if interested.

If you don't mind me asking, who's your HOA? I live in an area that has an HOA and I worry every day that I may receive a notice that I have to send away my beautiful girls....

You have got to be kidding me. Can't you convince the HOA that having chickens is the new trendy thing to do? For the love of Pete you can buy a chicken coop at William & Sonoma these days. You are increasing the appeal of the neighborhood. It will help with property values, I am sure.

Or you could take Dana suggestion and move out to the sticks...I do have to admit it has been a bit hot out lately though...

We live in " Rancho Del Mar" 200 feet from the horse park and animal hospital which can be noisy 24/7.

The HOA were not complaining about the hens, though they do not like them as it "lowers the tone" of the place.

They are complaining about noise from a peacock and a pathetic rooster. The peacock I get. We never meant to keep him, but had asked the neighbors to tell us if he was a bother and we would rehome him. No one spoke to us. We just got "the letter" .
The roo can't really crow (he squawked) and that is one of the reasons we kept him. There are however a bunch of people including the animal hospital who do have roosters. The roo is gone now and we still hear roosters.
HUGE SIGH.

We are still looking for a pet home for the the peacock pair. These are almost "domesticated", and would probably not fair well if confined with the likes of turkeys. Chickens are probably fine. Eventually given space they may be able free range.

Anyone heard from Glen?
Just checked the link and the fire has not increased in size since about 6pm last night and containment has started.

Hi Cari,
I hope your move is going well, I wish I could help but I can't even keep up with my own projects. Eather I'm getting old or there are not enough hours in a day!

I'm looking for a Blue Wheaton Americana Rooster, if you have a spare I can purchase. We have some beautiful girls that would love to have big boy around.
Tx!
Jules
