Sand Hill Preservation Center

Well that's a bummer...I hope things work out for them. I guess I will have to wait and see if I get my order back. How did you find out this info did you call them?

I checked their website. They have a news and updates page. The last update was posted on January 25 concering the poultry. You could try to call them to get a better update but usually Linda is only there to answer the phone on Mondays and Thursdays from 2-4 Central time. But here's the link for their updates page.

I have never ordered from Sandhill but I have only heard bad things about them. I am trying Superior farms this year, so we will see how that goes.

Thanks Cindy...
I guess I will give it a little time and see if they post another update.

I went and looked at their web site...it sounds/looks good but their prices are high!

But I guess if the birds are of the good quality like they say it would be worth it. They don't ship to my zip.

I wonder why? Let us know how it goes.

Oh I will. I only give these places one chance so if they screw up I will tell the world. I have seen photos of some of their stock from another BYC member and they look good. I will keep you all posted. I am only adding layer to my flock so I stand by my saying "if you want stock to start breeding with then get in touch with breeders, NOT HATCHERIES".

That's too bad... I noticed that their prices went up $1 over last year's pricing too. Probably to offset feed price increases, but that's a little steep for the minimum number of birds.

Yep...I am wanting Layers too and some meat birds. I want them big jumbo egg laying Delaware from Sand Hill. They say they lay a lot of double yokers....that's what I am hoping for.

I have my order in for some of those Delawares also.

I have ordered from Sandhill twice. A few years ago I ordered Blue & Black Orpingtons. Beautiful birds and the foundation of my current stock. I got about 50/50 male to female.

Two years ago I ordered ducks. There was a awful shipping problem and over half of the ducks DOA. This was not Sandhill's fault but the post office in combination with some of the hottest days during the Spring. The living ducklings grew into lovely ducks and a good representation of their breed: Golden Cascades, Saxony, & Pekin. Sandhill gave me a credit for the lost ducklings as it was to late in the season to get replacements. I also got pretty close to half male & half female from the remaining ducklings.

Hoping this order goes well.

I too am trying Superior Farms this year. I would be interested in seeing how your order turns out as well. I had thought of Sandhill, but then saw those pics about Superior and all they had available. They had nearly everything I wanted, so I took a chance. Danny promised that the one particular breed I really want has outstanding color and type. Let's hope so!
