Sand in coop and run?

We were thinking about putting sand in the run definitely, and maybe in the coop. We live in iowa so our weather is a little bit of everything! It will be a covered run we will have at least 7 chickens. We are willing to clean every day! We don’t know what else we could put in the run. Also if we put sand in the run how would we keep the dirt from mixing with the sand? I guess I’m asking what should we put down under the sand layer? Hopefully that makes sense lol

Constant sand will make it hard to keep nails trimmed and slow poop decomposition. I would reccomend some green wood chips

To answer your question - geotextile is what I would use.
BUT I agree with @nuthatched - wood chips on the dirt will help decompose the poop so you don't even have to clean it. Even if you spot clean everyday sand will never be as clean as you think it will be. Think about how stinky sand from the beach is.
