We have sand in our run and it is great. We just rake it out twice a week and it is odor free. We were flooded a bit ago - what a nightmare - but this was due to the slope of the run and poor drainage, the water had no where to go. Sand will not solve this problem and I am headed out to pour cement in the trenches I dug yesterday. I wish I had access to free sand, but we buy play sand by the bag so it does add up when you need to put a lot in at once.
