Sand inside eggs?

Whew, glad someone else has seen these before; my hens aren't the only ones with these thingies. Maybe they are a result of ranging after all...but how could something that big end up in an egg? They really look like kidney stones (I think they do, anyway, from the photos on the internet). But the egg tract is separate from the body-waste tract, so kidney stones couldn't get enclosed by the eggshell, right?

Could they be meat spots? They don't seem like "meat" as they are crumbly, dry, and white in the middle. I don't ever see any squishy meaty things in my hens' eggs, and that's what I thought a meat spot is...maybe I'm wrong...

I'm also waaay frustrated by googling...so much about human kidney stones and chicken for dinner and so little about the birds themselves!

Mmmmm anyone want an omelette?

I've had them before, but never worried about them. Just part of the egg.

Like they say, the green in chicken poo is just chicken poo! Well, maybe "they" don't say, but I just did!

Haha, yeah I still use the eggs (which are amazingly delicious by the way) and usually don't think about the thingys. They are really disgusting up close, but they're small, and they go away when cooked. I'm just wondering what they are and whether they indicate something is wrong with my hens...
