Whew, glad someone else has seen these before; my hens aren't the only ones with these thingies. Maybe they are a result of ranging after all...but how could something that big end up in an egg? They really look like kidney stones (I think they do, anyway, from the photos on the internet). But the egg tract is separate from the body-waste tract, so kidney stones couldn't get enclosed by the eggshell, right?
Could they be meat spots? They don't seem like "meat" as they are crumbly, dry, and white in the middle. I don't ever see any squishy meaty things in my hens' eggs, and that's what I thought a meat spot is...maybe I'm wrong...
I'm also waaay frustrated by googling...so much about human kidney stones and chicken for dinner and so little about the birds themselves!
