Sand instead of pine shavings as bedding?

I was just thinking of easier ways of keeping that particular coop clean if I ended up getting it. It looked like it was half way there as a great set up for poop trays and keeping the chickens off it with the mesh shelf set up already. No harm or criticism intended!

Sorry if it came across that way,

Henry I use the pine shavings also, and have found it to be the best. I clean my hen house out once a month and rake it weekly to keep it turned over (what the hens dont already turn over). When I clean out the hen house I use it around my yard in my flower beds and then cover the shaving with pine needle. It makes excellent mulch and I also use it in my compost heap and use in my veggie garden in the spring and summer. However dont put it in flower beds near or next to your house the shavings will cause termites. So in other wordds you actually only have to make use of soiled pine shavings 12 times a year and thats not too bad. Sam
