Sand or Decomposed Granite?

I have access to both which would better for my run and chickens?

Sand. The decomposed granite will become too compacted for them to scratch and they can't dust bathe in it, either. The decomposed granite would be great for a walkway or path to and from the coop/run area to your house, but I would not use it in the run.
