Sand or Hay for bedding small wooden coop?

Hello Chelsea-85
Welcome to BYC.
I agree with @ChickenCanoe hay is not a good option. Not only does it mold and produce harmful spores, it often comes with mites.
Straw is a better option, but do you really need any bedding at all?
If you have nest boxes then straw is a good option but I leave coop floors bare; after all, the chickens sleep on roost bars. Apart from not having to worry about moldy bedding bare floors allow you to check poop more easily.
A lot depends on the type of floor you have but I've assumed it's wood (?)

Thank you dear for your reply. The floor is wood and I believe that a kind of bedding would provide them ward and bare floor would be boring for them.
I just wonder if sand is a good option for the bedding in Winter. That is my question actually here.

Thank you again

Where are you located and what kind of weather do you get? And how many chickens do you have? I think it's a humidity problem and not a bedding problem. How much ventilation does your coop have?

I'm not a fan of sand on coop floors. If you must use something pine chips or straw would be my choice. I don't think boring floors is big on the list of chicken priorities unless perhaps they are stuck in the coop 24/7 and with the dimensions you've given, if this is the case, your coop is way to small for that type of chicken keeping.
There are lots of srticles on coop build and ventilation here on BYC.
This is one of the better ones which may help with your ventilations problems.

Dear, I live in Kurdistan (North of Iraq) and the weather is cold in winter. I have two chickens and one rooster. I wrapped up the coop with plastic nylon sheet, only the upper part is open. I don't know how to solve the humidity problem.

You are right dear, my coop is small and the chickens are stuck in it most of the times, yet finding a good bedding would give them warm and pleasure.
Thank you for the links dear.

Kurdistan! My daughter is about to marry one of your countrymen. You can fill in your location on your profile page (it will show up in the box on the left of your posts) and that should help people to give advice relevant to your area.

:) Thank you dear. I just did it. Thank you for your info and wish your daughter a prolific marriage :)

What temperatures do you get in winter? Chickens are very cold tolerant. Is your ventilation covered with plastic right now or is it open?
In winter it reaches (-10). The coop is small and only the upper part one side of the coop is open (about 10 cm). Do I have to unwrap one side of the coop?
