Sand or Shavings for Cool Rainy Climate

Hi All, I am just a week or two away from taking my new chicks out to the coop. I need some advice. For anyone who lives in a cool, rainy and windy area, whould you recommend sand or deep litter in the coop?

I have sand in mine now. I was using pine shavings, but once it gets wet, it stinks. During the spring and fall it rains quite a bit. With lots of wind. The sand will keep them cool in the summer also.

Sand is the way to go. Keeps the bug population down as well.

Cocci thrives in humid conditions, and straw and shavings are excellent supporters of molds.
