I'm wondering what kind of sand to use for chickens. Can anyone list safe ones that you use please. All-purpose Quikcrete or all purpose gardening sand, I hear course is better. I read that All-purpose Quikcrete sand can cause cancer?View attachment 1802977

Use course sand. I use sand intended for concrete, and purchase it bulk by the yard.
Not sure where you get the carcinogenic info on the other Sand.:idunno
Fine sands are not good for chickens since they are more likely to be inhaled.
Course sand tends to be less dusty since the particles are larger.

What's the name on the sand? I went to Lowe's site and saw the all- purpose Quikcrete, wasn't sure if that's the brand others have used too. I saw the cancer warning at the bottom where it says health warnings. I clicked into it and it said can cause cancer.

Coarse sand work good except ur chickens are not like mine who eat any kind of sand lol
I don't use sand
But coarse sand work good

Morgan, call a dirt hauling business, and tell them you want clean builder's sand. Be sure to say clean. The difference is that clean sand has been sifted, so there is no garbage, or debris in it. Lowes, or Home Depot may sell builders sand, but don't get the playground sand they sell in the bags.

Try a bag of this one. See how you like it.
The sand I get is bulk, not bagged from a Home-center. Comes from a cement supply yard. They carry 3 grades of sand. One is fine, for tuck-pointing. Next is medium for masonry brick work. The third (called torpedo):idunno is for concrete cement to which stones are also added . It is the most course one. All their sand is considered washed, not cleaned. I assume it is to remove the very fine particles.
Hope this helps:highfive:

I mentioned not getting bagged sand.
Bagged sand is possibly the only thing available to many peeps. Many supply yards do not want to deal with small quantity consumers, and will direct them to go to a Home-center to get what they need. These yards want to sell the stuff by the ton, not bucket. :old
I purchase the sand by the cubic yard from the cement place. They use a front loader to drop it onto my trailer.

I was at Lowe's the other day and saw this. Looked pretty course(bits of stone etc in it).
