My 2 week old BR's and RIR's are starting to do the bathing thing in the pine chips. Can I put some sand in an area of the brooder for them? If so, what kind. I have some playsand (Home Depot) that I put in my grandson's play area and I'm thinking that should be ok.

Yes that play sand works great. Mine like to peck around in the playsand and even eat it, which is fine. At 2 weeks I put some of the food in a shallow bowl and they would run for it and dust bath in that. I was so cute.

Welcome to BYC. This place is great!

After the first couple weeks we use all sand in our brooder boxes. Easy to clean up and lasts a long time between having to empty the box. Plus it helps that there is a sand pit about a 1/4 mile from the farm.
