I voted. Yes, of course. It was somewhere like 87.1 to 12.5 or something like that. The OP needs to edit the thread subject title to include "WE NEED YOUR VOTE!!," so we can blow that thing out the water. Let them get all of BYC's vote and see just who they're messing with.
I've sent my email. Here, I will copy and paste it as inspiration for others!
To Whom It May Concern:
I have read the story regarding the city taking several chickens from a young girl who shows and cares for them. I would like to show my support that the city change the code in order for the family to keep their chickens. Many cities throughout our great country permit their residents to keep poultry under certain guidelines. Why should a family be deprived of this opportunity, just because they live in your city. I think it is utterly silly and tragic that the city is willing to charge this family $1400 just because they keep a few pet chickens.
I hope you receive many more emails and phone calls in support of this family. Thank you for listening. Also your local paper has a poll going on their website about this situation. I would suggest you checking out the results of this poll in progress.
This is a perfect example of what is wrong with this country. It's the norm for kids to sit in front of a computer and play with a virtual pet all day. I know, my daughter has 25 Webkinz - which is crazy! But heaven forbid a child should have real live animals to care for and interact with. It's so much tidier to watch TV or play with the computer. This would not even have happened years ago. I am glad my children have been able to experience raising chickens. I am praying things will turn out well for the family in Sanford.
