Keep us updated and let us check out the proposal. There are some on here that can give you pointers for it. Sure hope you win!

Oh my! You all are fabulous. You have overwhelmed me with your kindness and helpfulness. It is so refreshing to find people out there that care.

I have not had a change to read all of your comments, I will do that right after this post, I just wanted to get back to you all. We have been in the newspaper (SanfordHerald.com) everyday. We had a front page feature on 6/25 and everyday thereafter we have had letters to the editor about us (all positive). I think many more are to come.

Here is where I am now:
My chickens are OK. I have filed an appeal with code enforcement. I will not win the appeal but it stays all fines until they get a board together and meet over my appeal. This could take a month.

I have written a another letter to the editor stating the regulation I will propose to city council. I want the public to know how reasonable they are.

I had contacted other TV and newspapers the same day I contacted WRAL. The latter was the only once to respond.

I have a second tier of media to go to that includes national broadcast and a third tier to go to on specific topics. For example I will contact Rachel Ray's show on the food network and discuss how healthy eggs and CNN with the economic benefits and Ellen on the green factor. I am full of them.

I have a new slogan for our cause and soon to be a new city club. CLUCKs Children Lovers of Urban Chicken Koops!

The next city council meeting is July 15. I will have kids out front at 6:30 with Egg shaped petition signs, I already have the permit to petition form from the Police department.

These old croagies here dont know they are messing with someone who has a marketing background and spent 8 years in NYC doing advertising.

Do not get me wrong......I really dont want to give Sanford a soiled name, I live here. But when other cities can do this successfully and we have science and health and economy behind us there is no reason to be close minded.

My kinds want to know if they can start preparing their birds for the county and state fairs coming up in a few months.

The $ fund is a really generous and sweet idea. But it is not very practical. However I would really appreciate it if you could start calling those council members and letting them know what city you live in and how it is working there. Also, if you have any kids that want to make an egg shaped petition poster and send it to us, that would be great. Any ideas on a logo for CLUCK. Anyone you want to send that WRAL link to would be great (I think it will only be there for 30 days). If you belong to any listserves send the info out. I found you guys by googleing Sanford Chickens.

Thank you....I now know I have to check back here more often to get your great ideas.

Kindly,
Alex Reid

I am hoping things will change with the board members and maybe they will have a change of heart. If they ever owned parrots and other pet birds, why not chickens???

I, too, live in the city of Decatur, IL and many of us do have chickens in the city. However we do have restrictions!

Also, not only Rachel Ray, how about Martha Stewart???????????

McMurray Hatchery would be a good source of getting some info on their customers who does have chicks or chickens in their city. I am certain a good portion of their orders are city folks!

Good luck! I will be watching this closely!

Please forgive me for being overwhelmed, I have not quite figured all of you out. But it seems there are a couple of you in the State of NC, even locally. That is just awesome.

Here are the complete phone numbers (thanks to whomever did all that research on the useless City of Sanford site). These are there home phone numbers, the city clerk gave them to me so they must be public.

Mayor Olive (she has no voting power) 919-718-0571
Brewer (he is with me) 919-775-7488
Taylor (I am not sure where he stands) 919-775-1824
Williams (dont know either) 919-258-3458
McNeil (he is key to convince) 919-776-4894
Mann (he is the jerk) 919-775-2038
Stone (he could be persuaded my way) 919-777-8419
Martin (he is progressive, but I dont know anything else) 919-776-5636

Please, however, do not make me out to be the crazy chicken lady. Everything I have put out there thus far has been very factual and professional. If I maintain that image I will get the press to respond more.

Thanks to you all!
Alex

Yeah, consider Martha Stewart. The first I ever heard of Ameraucana chickens and blue/green eggs was from her magazine or tv show, years ago. Her line of paint colors was inspired by her chickens' eggs.

A lady on here by the ID SeaChick was able to make a change in her city that allowed her to keep chickens.

She posted on BYC about it and she had a website dedicated to it.

Alex, so glad you came back! I will be doing some quick research about the positives of owning city chickens before I call all the people you listed. I need to sound extremely educated about this because I live in the county, NOT the city limits (Nash Co).

We're just so proud of you fighting city hall.

Go Gett'um!

Why bother fighting prostitution, child sex crimes, or methamphetamine labs; the real scum of the earth are those chicken people! Come on!! Lets find something a little better to whine about.

Twenty bucks says the only reason this even got brought up is some snobby councilman or whatever lives nearby.
