Sanford, NC family fined $1300 day for chickens!Update She Found US!!!

Ok, so I just found this topic off of the ncpoultry2 yahoo group. I see you've already heard about my story!

Alex - I think maybe putting "Save Sanford's Backyard Chickens" or "Healthier Eggs for Sanford" on the egg shaped signs would be great.

I have also been thinking about making some signs for supporters to put in their yards... but my husband doens't want to spend any money on this 'campaign'. We'll see I guess! Right now I'm relying on word-of-mouth and the Internet to get more signatures for my petition. Em

How about: "Don't Kick a Chick", or "Be a good egg, save the Chicks". Just a though for your sign campaign.

Welcome manfre and emandmikey!!!!!!

ALEX, is the vote tomorrow, July 15th? Let us know.

We all voted, sent emails, posted to various TV news organizations so hopefully this board made an impact.

As far as picket signs...I don't get it. It's like putting the horse before the cart. Wouldn't you wait to see if the council votes "NO" before you picket?

In any case, I like EMANDMIKEY'S "Save Sanford's Backyard Chickens". Let us know what happens tomorrow. If you want to picket the vote after the fact, I will make some signs and mail them to you.

Please know we are ALL here for you. Be strong in front of that council meeting.

YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!!

Hey all. Our signs are really cute. The Sanford Herald got a good quote of mine in today's (Tuesday) newspaper announcing the protest. Please come and support all the important issues (Health, Family, Education, Economy, etc). We will meet at 6:15 at 225 Weatherspoon (Police and Water Departments). Thanks.

This is what is in our daily paper today concerning Alex's case.

Group plans to protest council’s chicken ordinance today
SANFORD — Jonesboro resident Alexandra Reid hasn’t given up on the chickens of Sanford.
Reid, who previously petitioned the council to amend city Unified Development Ordinance to allow chickens in the city limits, will be back at today’s Sanford City Council meeting, set for 7 p.m. at City Hall. She and other concerned citizens have obtained a permit to picket tomorrow’s meeting, and plan to appeal to councilmen during the public comment section of the meeting. “There’s quite a groundswell about this issue,” Reid said. “I am hoping that the city council will start understanding that this is a much more important issue than just one of the Reid family’s, and that they need to start considering their community.”
Reid and her fellow protestors do not plan to petition for an ordinance change tomorrow night, wanting to give the council time to consider and research the issue, and its support in the community, Reid said.

Signs are good!!!! Anything that shows the city how many people care about the issue will be of great benefit.

Last summer, when we campaigned our city, Olivia made signs for people to hold at the city council meetings... see this TV news link:

We printed the signs and mounted them on foam core with bamboo-skewer handles!

and here are the downloadable PDFs we had for people to print out themselves. Feel free to use them and put your own town's name on them!!

Several signs ended up in front windows and taped to car windows around town, too!
