Sapphire Gem cockerel

Also, I read back a page or two and you mentioned that they are known for being aggressive? I had read something different. I had read that Sapphire Gems are some of the more relaxed, friendly roosters, unless you are a predator. Then all bets are off because they will flip their witch switch so fast that you would think he had an evil twin. 😂

I have a Sapphire Gem rooster, too! He went through his hormonal phase, which was a bit of a nightmare, but he is now the sweetest baby. He still does not like to be petted, but he listens to hand/voice commands, he is our main protector and has tried to fight a hawk on multiple occasions (though I tend to step between them first, so he has yet to really be able to fight it), and he tidbits everyone and everything including chipmunks and finches. 😂

Oh I bet yours is a HOOT!! Tidbitting chipmunks must have them very confused! :lau

Quin is really chill for such a big fellow. I am lucky he is such a good boy.
It's good to know yours isn't an idiot either.

I hope yours manages to grow an impressive tail soon.

Forgive the very ugly yard.

Quin taking the ladies on an adventure in the garden. He prefers me not to get to close to take pictures.

Really!? Mine is a camera hog. Every time I try to take pictures of the others, he steps in front and fluffs up. 😆 But he also used to watch the exploding chicken cartoon on my phone when he was just a chick, so maybe he just likes the phone. 🤣

Your yard isn't ugly at all! You have green grass, growing stuff in the planter boxes and a very handsome rooster in your yard!

There is one baby chipmunk that actually goes to him now and take what he offers. The others do not. They fear the giant bird with the loud voice. 😂 I hope that Quin stays a good boy! And I hope his spring-time orneriness does not put you off of keeping him. 🤞🏻❤️

Is Quin your first rooster? I had no idea that roosters got this big, but my Sapphire Gem is huge! He wanted to jump on my back and preen my hair when he saw his girls doing it, and he sent me sprawling. He is very heavy and I cannot even pick him up anymore. 😬

I've had roosters before but they were all bantam. The bantam Cochin was the best one. He got named scooter because to get away from us he would scoot under the big hens. This is my first full-size rooster that I'm keeping. He is pretty big he stands taller than my Brahma hens. I always make sure I know where he is when I'm in that run.

His size is going to impress you. Mine is almost a year and a half old and he is still growing! I do not even bother to keep track of where mine is. He is always near me, and I have absolutely no fear in turning my back on him. I regularly kneel in the run, and he likes to come over and wipe the muck from his beak onto my neck. It is so gross, but at least he is not attacking. 😂
