Hey everyone. I’m deciding what to incubate next week and I really would like to do the SG x welsummer.

The sapphire gem is a sex linked bird, but does anyone know what markings I’d be looking for to discern male/female with this combo?

Does being sex linked always mean the spot on the head is cockerel and no spot is hen or is there other feathering specific to the lineage that I need to look for

Sex linking means theirs a visual difference between male and female chicks, it could be color or pattern.
A sapphire gem is cross between a barred rock and another hybrid blue 'Plymouth rock', which is a cross between a Andalusian and a barred rock.
I'm not sure if the chicks would be sexlinked.

Right, so do both mom and dad need to be sex linked for the child to be sex linked? I made a poor assumption that sex linking was a dominant trait and a sex link bird plus another bird would have sex linked offspring. I’ve seen/heard about sex linking with the spots on the head and the barring on the feathers but was curious if this offspring would be sex linked what I should look for. Thanks for your reply!
