Sapphire Gem Rooster??!

Sapphire gems are a hybrid cross of a barred rock type and splash andalusian type.
Being a cockerel he should be barred but these birds are from Hoover's and they don't have the recipe right.
Sapphires are a hybrid with the legbars and leghorns. Different hybrid completely.
Never heard of a sapphire OE but with what you're saying I'm betting it some type of sapphire gem/legbar cross. Are they also from Hoover's?
Yes, they are among the new birds for this year being offered by hoovers

That's what I figured.
They're really getting into selling cross breeds with fancy names. Guess it helps with making profits.
Betting that "breed" is nothing more then a glorified EE and just lays green eggs.

Were they marked saphire gem or sapphire olive egger? The latter is a hybrid frequently sporting a partial crest

He was in a labeled bin that said Sapphire Gem and they all looked the same. He was the biggest one there. A week later there was a new bin labeled Sapphire Olive Egger.. the chicks in that bin were lighter in color. We got one from there too. The chicken we got that was labeled Sapphire Olive Egger did not have the darker colored head and neck as the cockerel shown in this thread.

Both my Sapphire Gem cockerel (shown) and our Sapphire Olive Egger were both bought from our local feed store that gets their chicks from Hoovers Hatchery. This batch was being sold early January all under pullets.

Your cockerel is not a saphire gem......they have no crested parentage and your boy is showing no barring.....your boy is a saphire olive egger

So what do you think is the parentage of the SOE?
Seems one parent has to be a CCL right?
Why does that cockerel not have barring which ever it is?
I know SG males are supposed to be but wouldn't a SOE also?
If a CCL is a parent, either side those cockerels should be barred. I assume it's on the hen side since that would make them also sex linked like the SG and the website shows a non barred hen.
