Sapphire Gem

Here's the generic rooster pic.
D107_hybrid_cock.jpg

They're a cross that produces blue pullets and blue barred roosters. Its called sex linked because they can be sexed by sight at hatch.
Cockerels should have a white spot on top of their heads and pullets won't.
When you breed them the expected out come would be on average 50% blue, 25% black and 25% splash (light blue to almost white with blue specks)
Half of the chicks would be barred like father and half would be not barred.
It will be completely random which ones get which color or are barred or not.

These babies are about 12 weeks old. They are less skittish than my brahmas, Easter eggers and speckled Sussex. I think I am going to love them. I hope they really do get “blue” like in the pictures from the hatchery

Anyone have any adult pictures of these? Just ordered 2 Males and 5 Females. Wife liked the idea of a blue chicken and they seem like they should be productive layers that's all I cared about. Hoovers have like one generic picture of a hen I'm just wondering if they're actually that blue.

My girl there is one of four SGs I have. Shree is right in the middle on the color spectrum. I have another darker grey one and two that are a little lighter than her. They will be 11 weeks on Friday the 6th.

So when you say they won't be sex linked and wont be blue what will they be? Hypothetically? Could be any color any sex? I'm not sure I understand what sex linked is and why sex is guaranteed. I do know its the type of bird big egg laying operations use but outside that I know nothing.

Here's a good thread about sex linked information. The first post has some nice tables which explain how the back yard flock owner can produce his own "custom" sex links. I've been doing so for the last 5 years, producing BSL birds which have a small comb and produce a colorful egg basket.

This is my baby. She's about 4 and a half months old and just laid her first egg! She's not quite as "blue" as I expected (yes I know the picture advertising them is a little edited lol but Hoover also saw her and said she'd change colors... she has not) but she's still very pretty, healthy, and sweet!View attachment 1443354
I am adding 3 pullets this week from a local farm and one will be a Sapphire Blue. Your girl is beautiful! Can't wait!
