I have a 5 week old supposed to be pullet but I’m stumped. She has feathered out awfully slow, didn’t get tail feather until 2.5 weeks and has always had a relatively large comb. She did not have a dot on her head as a chick (supposed to be sex linked) and everything I read says Roos tend to get yellow rings around their eyes, lighter beaks, and baring. So far no baring (the way her feathers overlap appears like baring right now, but it’s just feather overlap and lacing) I also read some people got miscolored Roos so there is that. The mystery continues. Any Sapphire Gem savy folks have any opinions or ideas?

You both are giving me hope!!!
I only have one so I have no one to compare her too. And she just seems so big and lanky compared to the others 🤣

First picture is my girl Penny at 3 weeks. I was worried about her until I really understood the differences of what a sapphire gem male would look like at that age. Second picture is not mine but shows what a young sapphire gem male looks like. They develop very quickly and are obvious by 6 weeks especially if you had one of each to compare.

Thank you! Very helpful.

Here is an update on my “girl”. She has a pretty red comb for a 6.5 week old and is still losing fluff on her head and parts of her neck, but I’m still holding out hope.

Im finding this hybrid grows small red waddles at just a few weeks old, but then they just freeze until they get closer to point of lay
My Australorp pullet has been messing with me like that! I will be so glad when she buys me breakfast so I can give it a rest! Lol
