Hey there! First time posting long time learning and scrolling! 😊
We got our first chicks about 4 weeks ago now for our modest little back yard coop. We have 10 total-two each of EEs, RIR, BO and these 4 pictured. We got them all from Hoover’s and were generally the same age when brought home. The two Plymouth Barred Rocks and two Sapphire Gems (pictured) looked identical until about 2 weeks ago when they began to feather. With that being said-it seems obvious that we have a rooster in each breed ...?? Would any of you who are experienced with these particular breeds be able to give us any ideas on who you think who could be the cockerel and who could be the pullet? And yes-we know at this age it is NOT definitive and it’s best to wait till one starts to crow OR lay eggs. Lol! But we do NOT plan on keeping any roosters-we got the 10 chicks knowing some would end up as Roos and some could pass away. My plan is to find homes for any of the roosters to live happy little lives. 😊😊
Thanks for any input!

Both the barred rocks look like pullets. Their barring is too dark to be double barring, which a male would have. The Sapphire Gems do too. If Hoover is breeding them correctly, a male Sapphire Gem would be barred, not solid.

Thank you! I posted this exact post on a chicken fb page and got so many random replies. It seemed like no one who answered knew much about these breeds. The only thing the fb people were looking at were the combs. But I knew there was more to sexing these breeds then the comb size and color...So i appreciate your educated reply!!
