My lil man "Midgit". Got him with other sapphire olive eggers from Hoovers online. I miscalculated on another post, he is 19 weeks old. He's got the biggest comb I've ever seen and wattles keep growing.
He has no tailbones nor that triangle piece tail bones end at. He's got that one feather that grows down and small one that curls backwards it looks like as far as tail feathers go lol.
Has anyone else gotten any of these SOE that have no tail and look like they are missing half their body 🤣😂

Oh my gosh I've never seen anything like him before. He looks almost comical (no offense meant). A friend of mine had a hen who got all her tail feathers pecked off but that doesn't even begin to compare to this! Did he ever have a tail or did he lose it?

No offense taken. Know what you mean by comical lol. He never has had any tail feathers. When started notice he looked like this I felt his tailbone area and noticed then he didn't have that triangle part. He's very friendly and will come stand by my feet wanting picked up. He does have the beard but hard to see because of his ginormace wattles. He doesn't have ear tuffs tho.
The only thing that pulls up when I Google lens good pics of him is Araucana.
I'm wondering if maybe in Hoovers stock of SOE there is one or more EE passing on strong (if that is even a thing) aracauna genes?
No matter what he's my pet chicken now. I am not going to use him for any future baby chicks.

Midgit matches on lol. I can't get over how huge his comb and wattles are for his all over size. For some reason he reminds me of a cowboy with big ol Stetson on lolol.

Agreed he inherited the rumpless gene from his Araucana ancestry.
I am torn. I'd like to see what some of his chicks would end up looking like. But with having lower fertility rate cause of being tailless. And from what I've read the further on you breed ones without a tail (say his daughter or granddaughter back to him) you end up with birds with shorter backs even. I don't want to be a Victor Frankenstein and chance "monsters" or more likely dead monsters. But curiosity has me for at least one generation. Someone tell me "No...bad chicken lady...bad bad..go stand in the corner and let him live his best life in the no breed pen." 😳🤔🐣

Does having a shorter back impact their quality of life? This probably sounds really stupid but I genuinely don't know. I mean, I'm not trying to stir up an argument on here, but if it doesn't... maybe try it? If it does have some impact on their lives that I don't know about, then I'd avoid it. In the end they are your chickens though...

No it doesn't sound stupid. That's how we learn by asking questions right? From what I've read so far, just having no tail bone doesn't cause health issues. Also from what I've researched, when used for breeding their offspring have a higher chance of having progressively shorter backs (guessing they mean less actual vertebra).
I've been keeping Midgit in with Tootsie Pop, my Americana roo and the girls in the enclosed run that has their coup. And I keep the 6 other roos in a second attached enclosed run so they can't pester the girls relentlessly. Those are the freezer camp crew once this 100° weather breaks lol.
Midgit and Tootsie Pop do well together with the girls so far, no fights etc. sorry this is so long. Just wanted to learn of any one else's experience with the no tail chickens that have been used for breeding for reference I guess lol.

Sorry just saw this. He never had a tail bone nor tail feathers. Since he's sapphire olive egger I'm guessing he inherited an araucana gene for no tail bone lol
