SauerKraut is it ok to feed?

Have a little bit left over from a meal.

I don't think a little would probably hurt them, but I wouldn't give them very much because of the high salt content.

mine loved it. i gave them left over kraut once, they gobbled it right up. i was afraid it would give them cabbagy-tasting eggs, but didn't seem to.

Only feed it to German chickens... (ha, ha) Actually, I think the pickling and salt would be not such a great idea for them.

You have some left over, and they may like it, but that may not mean that you should definitely give it to them... Just my thoughts (which may be prejudiced because I hate sauerkraut.)

You should probably only give them sauerkraut if it's the "real" kind -- that's cabbage and salt that has been naturally fermented. If it's the "fake" kind (which is 95% of what's out there) which is essentially cabbage with vinegar and salt the vinegar is probably bad for them.

Also, I read that Asian chickens that were fed KimChi (Asian version of sauerkraut but with more spices) did not get the Asian bird flu while others in the vicinity did. Hmmmm.

the Asian chickens were probably not on feed that had the correct salt content already added.... I do not see the vinegar as a problem but the salt content makes what is otherwise a great "treat" dangerous.
